Northern lights hunting in Tromsø with Dan the Aurora Man It was the first night (out of 4) of the northern lights hunting in Tromsø in early March. The small minivan hunting tour with Dan the Aurora Man was a really nice experience for me. It was my first time seeing the aurora borealis, and especially because it was my birthday too. Dan was super friendly and professional. We drove for over 1 hour away to find a place with the best chance of no cloud. Waiting for the lady aurora to show amidst the cold winter night, he set up a bonfire and gave us really delicious homemade soup and carrot cake, plus hot chocolates! He took lots of pictures and we were free to jump in anytime, especially because it was a small group tour. And the link to the photos were already ready in our e-mail by the time we wake up the next morning. Though the intensity of the northern lights was not too strong that night, it was the only night for me where the pink and purple color appeared too (instead of only green). All in all, one of my best night of astrophotography!

!!!!HIDDEN GEM ALERT!!! He did not ask me to post this. I am just of the opinion that he is the best after researching many operations and finally taking his tour. Now that we have completed the tour we don’t need to gatekeep. We found Dan by chance and cannot recommend him more. He is passionate about the aurora and is the owner operator of his company. We were the first ones to arrive at an amazing spot and last to leave (only because one of our group members was too cold despite the cold suits Dan provided. Plus it also appears he has a legit tour operator license. He has the fairest price of them all and provides: Tripods (!!!!!!) for phones and cameras Cold suits and boots Hot homemade veggie soup Cocoa Tea Treats A campfire History and folklore He has no guarantee that there will be sightings but guarantees he will try his best and will offer to rebook if weather doesn’t permit. These aren’t even the best pictures we took! Just not posting because we are in the pictures with the most intense auroras.

Our group of 8 had the experience of a lifetime with Dan! From the moment we met him, it felt like we were with an old friend. We had a completely private show away from any other groups — it was incredibly special. On what seemed like a cloudy night, he still knew exactly where to go, and thanks to him we witnessed the most breathtaking, bright, dancing aurora imaginable. Dan went above and beyond—he set up chairs around a warm fire, provided us with thermal suits, and served hot chocolate, tea, and cookies/cake. He made us feel completely cared for. He also takes photos of you and of the aurora and sends them to you before you even wake up the next day! NOTHING compares to Dan’s dedication, energy, and genuine love for what he does. His passion is unmatched and is completely infectious! Choosing him is the best decision we make on our trip. We will be talking about this night for the rest of our lives. Thank you, Dan! You are amazing — we will be back!

If you are looking for a guided tour to see the Aurora (Northern Lights) please stop wasting your time and book a tour with Dan. You can easily spend hours comparing the offerings available on the Internet, but I believe you won't find anyone as good as Dan.

We had a magical experience. It all started at 5pm in Tromso when we met Dan and the other 6 fellows. We jumped in the minivan and Dan drove us North assuring us that we would find the Aurora, no matter how long we should drive.

After less than 1 hour Dan stopped the minivan and as soon as we jumped off it was there, dancing in green and purple. Crystal clear sky with a sinuous Aurora. We were speachless. Dan was so happy and excited that made us even more happier! He helped us to set the cameras to take pictures on our own while he was shooting portraits and filming that wonderful show.

After 15 minutes we jumped back in the minivan and we traveled up North in a quite place. No traffic, no people, no lights. Just us and the Aurora. Dan lighted up the campfire, gave us hot soup (delicious), cake, tea, chocolate and all he brought with him. The Aurora was still there for more than 3 hours, dancing in green and purple, and Dan explained us everything about it.

I have to say. He is not just a photographer and a guide, but a true passionate professional that could drive for hours to let you live that magical experience.

Trust me, stop wasting you time on the Internet. Book a tour with...

We did it! We found the Auroras thanks to Dan! Pretty much like the people chasing tornados, we hopped in his van and monitored the weather forecast and satellites images to find clear sky. We drove and drove and eventually reached Finland! And above us were two beautiful auroras! Dan had everything prepared: a bonfire, overalls, warm over-boots, the most amazing soup, hot chocolate, tea, biscuits.. we had a great night! Our phones definitely weren’t up to the task for taking photos, but Dan had a proper camera and took great pictures that we were so happy to wake up to the next morning! He also told us the legends and stories of the old Norse tribes and their interpretations of the Aurora phenomenon. About halfway back to Tromsø, Dan pulled aside and told us to get out of the van. Above us was the most majestic aurora of the night: very bright, very green and dancing! We got back to the hotel at 3 in the morning. We were knackered but it was definitely worth it! Thanks again to Dan, we had the most perfect experience that we could have wished for! We already want to come back to do it...

Dan's tour was amazing! He is a local guide and knows so much about the Northern Lights. You can tell he's really passionate about his job and I think that he is honest, empathetic, and patient. During the tour, he told us about the mythology, explained how the auroras form, and shared some really interesting facts.

Even though we had to wait a little while that night, the aurora was very visible, and it was a truly wonderful experience. He helped with the settings of the camara to make great pictures but he also make some with his own camara and send it to us.

He thinks on everything, he brought tripods, hot soup, snacks, chairs, warm clothes and boots, and started a bonfire to keep us warm.

It's true that no one can guarantee you'll see the Northern Lights, but I've been on other tours where it was obvious that they were just trying to make money. That's definitely not the case with Dan. It's clear that these tours mean more to him than just a job, so I highly recommend him! It was the best experience I've ever had, and I think it was definitely...
