Marugame Udon - Udon and Tempura — Local services in Makati

I recently visited this branch with my friends hoping for a quick, satisfying bowl of udon. Instead, I left with a feeling of frustration and being genuinely mocked, all thanks to one of their staff members. The core of the issue was not the food, which was adequate, but the completely unacceptable behavior of the person taking my order in the udon station. I'll admit I slightly mispronounced the Japanese name of the dish I wanted. This is a common, understandable mistake for a customer who doesn't speak the language fluently. It should be met with a gentle correction or, ideally, just an internal confirmation of the correct item. Instead, the staff member behind the counter decided it was an opportunity for a laugh. Not only did they visibly stifle a giggle after my attempt, but they then repeated my mispronounced order to a colleague within earshot, deliberately exaggerating the mistake for their amusement. Me and my family ate lunch here on May 1, 2023 (Monday). We eat at Marugame Udon often at different branches but this branch is probably the worst out of every Marugame Udon we've eaten at. The first thing is, the wait in line. We've probably spent 30mins in line that wasn't even long. And usually when people order they don't even get their orders right away, they're given a number. Second, the number of staff are A LOT. Two of them were flirting, one was chopping ONE onion for 10mins. And others were just standing there doing NOTHING. Third, after being in line for 30mins we were sat at a table and waited for another 10 more mins. Well, my family waited 10mins while 1 waited for 20mins. I have the same order as my dad and his was served much faster than mine while I waited for 20mins. The number of customers weren't a lot btw since it's passed lunch time on a holiday in Makati. While my family were almost done with their meal I was still waiting for mine. So my dad, who is a senior btw. Took my number and went in front of the staff showing the number to them. THEY IGNORED HIM. One literally walked passed him, a male server. Until one girl noticed after 4mins probably, and helped him. Needless to say, It was the most infuriating Marugame Udon...

Ambience It's spacious and I was lucky enough to visit during off peak hours so there were less customers. I was surprised to notice many of the side tables were marked reserved! Just like their BGC branch, I also like that they have cold water pitchers at all customer tables.

Food Beef Udon was already perfect without the additional toppings from the condiments section. Flavors of the beef and broth were a good combination. Serving size was just right and the texture of the udon was a little less chewy compared to Zaru, which was fine due to the broth.

Kakiage was big enough for two of us. The onions reminded us of fried onion rings. All veggies were good!

Zaru Udon was the perfect choice for something light. The coldness of the noodles was relaxing and they were also sweet and tasty thanks to the dip. The thickness and chewy texture were perfect!
