Where to start but the best coffee experience in the Philippines so far. The place presents clean and ordered. The food we tried was delicious. The drinks were great, alternative milks are offered including Soy and Oat for Coffee, just a note they pre mix the cold drinks and no variant milk can be used.
The coffee, they cannot do a flat white in a glass, the foam sits not to the latte side of life, in their standard mugs the coffee art looks a lot better.
Although we tried a lot of the menu we didn’t make it through all.
The Kitayama Beef Tapsilog - some quality beef, and the garlic confit rice go together very well, a nice amount, but not too much chew.
The Red Velvet Pancakes (pictured) were only a half serve. Moist, with benefit of cream and in the centre just enough sea salt cream to really make it kick.
The Shrimp Arriabiata was delicious, the fettuccine al dente, the sauce enough without being overbearing, and the shrimp fresh with some crusty bread to mop up the left over sauce.
The Kitiama Beef Burger, it was good. A nice mix of melting patty with brioche bun, starkly struck with the lettuce and we added bacon which was super thick cut. The two cheeses acted as glue to hold it together and the cheddar helped twang away the bite you wanted with little loss outside of each bite.
The Vietnamese coffee was ice cold and a nice refreshing and due to the egg white slightly filling drink.
We also enjoyed the Little Wave, a coffee temporarily on the menu from their sister coffee shop called Little Wave. A lovely new coffee not tried before, they have a sea-salt cream they top on the coffee and milk. Indeed a tasty treat.
The pineapple and mint juice was extra special because of its freshness and the ratio helped the flavour balance and gave a tame edge to the pineapples sweetness.
The iced mocha was good and soft texture blended well.
Roesti, another fantastic addition. The Roesti melt in the mouth, the chorizo crumbled all over, the sea-salt cream a nice addition and the very fresh lettuce leaves a winner accompanied by lovely poached rags oozing their goodness.
Mac & cheese (chorizo) soo smooth tasty, salty. The cheese baked and sprinkled on, this version a true winner.
Criticism is due where asking for menu changes, beyond inflexible they seemed scared to try new things. I asked for a rose salt latte and though they had the ingredients they were very reluctant to try. This is how I ended up tasting their rose and sea-salt latte which was far too sweet to want...
Read moreAdobo Bowl 3/5 - The serving is big. But I've tasted better adobo at home. They serve the drier kind of adobo; the one with no sauce. So I quite expected the pork to be full of flavor. But it taste quite bland and one-dimensional. I don't think I'll be repeating this again. Bacon Slab 4/5 - Their version "Bacon" takes form of a long and quite thick cut of pork. The pork is a tender and a bit juicy. And it does taste like bacon but much better. Overall, I'd rather order this again than their Adobo bowl. Mango Pineapple Pie 4/5 - Overall a good pie that's worth the try. Mango is the dominant fruit you'll taste in this pie. The Calamansi takes a back seat and just provide a little hint of citrusy dimension to its flavor profile. I personally would prefer if both Mango and Calamansi are in equal footing. Millionaire's Bar - The best dessert among all we've tasted in Sunny Side Cafe. It's a decent-sized bar for 2 people and composed of thick layers of nougat, chocolate, and cheesecake. The drizzle of Salt on top is the magic touch in my opinion, balancing the sweetness of the other ingredients. Vietnamese Coffee, Iced Latte I've taken out the Vietnamese Coffee, and Iced Latte. So it was served in a small bottle that's about the size of a cup. The vietnamese Coffee is just okay. Nothing to write home about. Same with the Iced Latte which is too bitter for my taste even when added with 4 packets of sugar. The serving is also small for the price. The Death Cream - Probably their most popular coffee drink. It's supposed to be a double-shot espresso with custard AFAIK. It's good but not special. It honestly taste just like coffee ice cream in popular convenience store but melted. Service - The crew are...
Read moreI went for a late breakfast or brunch. I believe there are two branches. This branch is located in Station 3. Small with tightly packed tables. There is some seating outside as well, but it was too hot. I managed to grab the last table. Nice menu from pasta to pancakes, sandwiches, eggs and more. Good variety. I wanted something simple but would suggest if you are feeling more adventurous to go for something else, or share a few dishes as everything looked good. I had an iced black americano single shot to drink and the two eggs any style with brioche and butter. The americano was very good. Perfect. I chose poached eggs which were perfectly done and the runny yolk was nice with the brioche bread. The brioche bread was OK. It lacked that sweet, buttery flavour. The texture could have been better as well. It was fine otherwise and I enjoyed my brunch. Staff were pleasant and friendly. Service was generally good but just a little slow initially. My two small negatives. Tables were clean but the floors were filthy. I didn't appreciate my long maxi dress touching food scraps left by previous diners. The second being, and I have noticed this a lot whilst travelling in the Philippines, was that I was told there were no indoor tables and that there was a wait. When I asked how long and that I didn't mind waiting, a table suprisingly became free! I don't know why they do this. It was incredibly hot outside and I wanted to sit inside. Reasonably priced and would...
