I can't say thank you enough to Andrew Goodall for being a superb physio bringing me to a full recovery and making my performance even better than it was pre-surgery!
I dislocated my shoulder 4 times before surgery, so I was always wary about what I did with it and would avoid certain activities. When I dislocated it again on holiday it required keyhole surgery which I had in July 2022. I was told by my surgeon that I wouldn't be able to go to the gym again until January 2023. I was quite mentally low during recovery and not really looking forward to physio and the many exercises. However, Andrew made the introduction seamless, put me at ease and took me through the holistic plan he had put together. Not only was Andrew excellent in helping me with my recovery physically, but he also takes the time to get to know his patients, and understand what their lifestyles are like so he can create the best plan for them. I generally looked forward to my physio sessions, they were very therapeutic but also pushed me physically in order to progress my recovery.
Despite being told I wouldn't be in the gym until January, by October 2022 I was able to go to a fitness boot camp (which is my favourite type of exercise) and given Andrew knew this he recommended I go to a boot camp session and it was fantastic. As I continued to exercise during physio, Andrew coached me and supported me through various exercises that I was nervous and anxious about doing. He always pushed me and reassured me even when I felt nervous about pushing my shoulder, but he always made sure that I was comfortable.
It is now January 2023 and I am fully back in the gym, doing boot camps and callisthenics and skiing. It's been years since I've felt comfortable doing overhead weights with my weak shoulder and now it feels great to be comfortable doing those exercises again and having a shoulder that isn't weak and has even better range than it had before.
Thank you so much Andrew you really invested the time and effort to help me recover to a level that was even better than pre-surgery and I will be eternally grateful for that - thank you so much!!
In addition, I would like to say a massive thank you to the ladies at reception. They were always so bright and welcoming, always willing to help me with any queries and played great tunes!! I also loved how much they'd help other clients, especially those with children. They were great too.
One additional thing to mention - the vast majority of physios there were men. Without me saying anything, Andrew had mentioned that it was something they were all concerned about and were interviewing to bring in more women so that they had a diverse range of physios and could provide the best service to all clients in which they could select who they wanted and feel comfortable during their time there. I think it's brilliant that they consider such things and are putting in the steps to build up areas they need to improve on.
Absolute excellence - couldn't recognise these guys enough.
Thanks again everyone, it's much...
Read moreI started working with Leigh Johnson (Canary Wharf) in the summer of 2023 after a severe ankle break (tri-malleolar fracture) in April 2023. At that point, I was recovering from my second surgery, using crutches full time, wearing a protective boot, had lost most of the muscle in my left leg and couldn’t move my toes. I was told that it was likely that I wouldn’t be able to run in the future. Fast forward ten months and thanks to Leigh’s help and guidance I have started to run again for the first time in nearly a year. Leigh was fantastic throughout my recovery. Firstly, Leigh is extremely diligent / knowledgeable. My sessions were tailored to my condition, and I left every session with a clear plan of the exercises that I should be doing at home to further my recovery before my next session. During each session, Leigh clearly explained/demonstrated every exercise as well as its importance / relevance to my recovery. Secondly, Leigh was very kind and personable throughout. Being unable to walk for a total of five months meant that I was often very down, but Leigh always made each session as positive and engaging as possible. Leigh was always very conscious of my capabilities / any pain I was in and adapted sessions accordingly. For example, after my second surgery I developed stress fractures due to a bone density issue and Leigh adapted my entire programme to account for this new injury and set out a clear road to recovery. This helped me to process what was, at the time, a minor physical but major psychological set back. Thirdly, I felt that Leigh went above and beyond to aid my recovery. She sent me follow up emails after sessions to remind me of the exercises I needed to do, she suggested different ways to improve discomfort that I had with my ankle. For example, she recommended using a nighttime ankle brace which has significantly reduced the pain that I used to have in the mornings. She also helped to arrange strength and conditioning and podiatry sessions to further aid my recovery as well as helping me find new coaches in Dubai after I left London for work. Leigh has been key to my recovery success, and I have no doubt that I wouldn’t be able to walk / now start to run pain free if it wasn’t for her guidance. I will continue to see Leigh in the future to help with the recovery from my fourth (and hopefully final) surgery. Thank you Leigh, you have been amazing and I am extremely grateful for all of your help over...
