Extremely Disappointed â Misleading Promotion & Bait-and-Switch Tactics
I had high hopes when I headed to Gomez Western Wear in Arlington on Saturday, April 6th for their advertised El Pachangazo Tour! event, which was set to begin at 2:00 PM. According to the promotion, the first 50 guests would receive a free hat courtesy of TC HATS. I made it a point to arrive earlyâ1:40 PM, to be exactâhoping to line up in time.
To my surprise, when I asked a blonde woman walking around the event if the line I was in was for the free hats, she casually said, âOh no! We gave out all the tickets earlier.â Wait, what? The event wasnât even supposed to start until 2:00 PM. So the tickets for the free hats were handed out well before the advertised time, which is misleading and incredibly frustrating for those of us who planned accordingly.
But unfortunately, that was just the beginning of the letdown.
Another woman (wearing either a brown or blue hat) approached and offered a $25 OFF coupon if I wanted to purchase a hat instead. She guided me to the trailer outside where the hats were being sold. She quoted me a price of $139, and said that with the $25 discount, it would come out to about $115 + tax. That seemed fair enough, and I figured it might still be worth it.
She then told me more hat styles were available inside the store, so I checked those out too. But something odd happenedâthe SAME hats were priced between $169â$189 inside. That didnât sit right, so I went back outside to stick with the âcheaperâ option.
A gentleman wearing a TC Shirt helped me choose a hat in the trailer, and the he whispered to the cashier (the woman in the blue hat). Everything seemed to be in order⌠until it came time to pay.
Suddenly, she tells me that they arenât accepting the $25 OFF coupon after allânot even 10 minutes after telling me otherwise. I was confused and felt completely misled. And if that wasnât enough, she then quoted the new price as $150 ânot the $139 I was told earlier.
At that point, it felt like a classic bait-and-switch. Misleading promos, inconsistent pricing, and unprofessional communication all wrapped into one very disappointing visit.
As a business professional myself, I know what red flags look likeâand this place is waving them loud and clear.
I wonât shop at Gomez Western Wear again, and I certainly wonât recommend it to anyone. Save yourself the time and the headacheâthere are at least two other spots just down the road that will treat you right and stand...
Read moreI am writing to express my deep dissatisfaction with the experience I had at Gomez Western Wear. Several weeks ago, I brought my new red felt hat in to be reshaped, and the gentleman with glasses tried to charge me $25 for a service that is typically free at other western wear establishments. After I hesitated and prepared to take my hat elsewhere, he suddenly mentioned that I could simply tip him instead.
Unfortunately, the reshaping was poorly doneâit was uneven, and it seemed as though he rushed through the process. To make matters worse, my hatâs feather was lost in the process. While he did offer to replace it, I asked for a specific brand, which should have been respected, but that wasnât the issue at hand.
A few days later, I returned to browse, and though the female employees were cordial, I was made to feel uncomfortable. They repeatedly emphasized how expensive the items I was looking at were and suggested cheaper alternatives in the back. One employee, while showing me a pair of boots, stood next to me the entire time, barely offering any help or engaging with me. I was more than capable of reading the price tags clearly displayed, so this felt unnecessary and awkward.
During this time, there was a Hispanic family in the store, and I observed that they were treated with much more respect and attention, which left me feeling sidelined. Based on these interactions, I am left to wonder whether there is a racial bias at play here. I hate to make such a claim, but I feel itâs important to share my experience, as it may be indicative of how African American customers are treated at this establishment.
I would appreciate the opportunity to speak with the owner or a manager to address this situation and hopefully come to a resolution. This experience has been frustrating, and I hope itâs taken seriously, as it has left me reluctant to return...
Read moreLiterally the worst customer experience ever. Both times I went in I was ignored for a solid 10-15 minutes despite being the only person in the store. I was trying to shop local and bought a beautiful pair of boots. Fast forward 5 months working a desk job and they have a hole! Went to the store to see if they could help waited forever for them to say $100 to fix, but they advised I should just buy another pair. Never again. I did not even get 5 months out of these almost $200 boots. Thank you for your reply Gomez Western Wear, I would be happy to connect let me know how to get ahold of you. Still waiting to hear from you and still have a hole...
