I visit at least once a week. The cashier Raone actually messed up my order. Which was no problem. However, her attempt to fix it was the issue. First, she wasnāt wearing gloves on both hands. Then attempted to dig out fruit of the base to reuse for My corrected order. However fruit falling on counter etc, she was trying to use those sane fruit. That fell on counter and same base. My bowl was being put together very sloppy and unsanitary. When I called it to her attention she was rude saying this is how she HAS TO DO IT, stating management reasons. I told her I would need a freshly made bowl due to her mistake. She actually refused at first. But when I said I would not take bowl and asked for refund. She again refused because of management reasons. At this point I asked for a receipt and let her know I would contact management n owners as I had been a customer since opening of this location. And this was not the customer service Iām used to. She then said , she would fix me a fresh bowl. I told her o would rather the other young lady on duty to fix it, citing her attitude n rudeness. I wanted no more dealings with her. As I had to almost make a closing statement to recover fresh, sanitary fixed food item. She almost messed up one of my best treats for myself. I love getting my bowls and sitting out front. Someone please talk to the young workers about customer service, sanitation, cross contamination, and food safety. It was only after I took pictures of my bowl and her bare hands did she and the realization I was going to speak to owners did she changer her tune. By the way she also refused to refund after they botched the order at first. So if I didnāt speak on talking to owner. I would have left with no food and no refund. This should never happen at a healthy food spot. Our vibes are too high for this as a 11 year vegan n plants based person. This is...
Read moreOn trips to Brasil, the one food I ate more than any other is the incredible Amazon superfruit açai. Every time I saw a stand selling it, I would stop for a cup, often blended with other native fruits such as acerola, producing a gloriously purple concoction with a flavor that defies description. Fresh açai does not survive long, which is why we almost never find it outside of Brasil, and it does not apparently grow anywhere else. So what we get in the United States is almost always frozen and still delicious but far short of the flavor you get in the homeland.
But we in Houston are pretty damn fortunate. A few years ago, my Brazilian friends shared with me an almost secret spot hidden way back in a warehouse up near IAH called AƧai Brasil (12230 W. Lake Houston Parkway), and I went and found a mostly Portuguese-speaking clientele and staff that served me an aƧai smoothie that came closer to what I had in Brasil than any other Iāve had here. They have since relocated to a new and much easier to find location up in Himble-Fall Creek, and the same server as before is still putting out Houstonās best aƧaĆ and a small selection of Brazilian snacks.
Hereās to the opening of a central Houston outpost to save me the considerable mileage and gas costs I incur to satisfy my...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI found this place after taking a friend of mine who's from Brazil to a popular chain that sells acai bowls. He told me that the stuff from my favorite chain spot was extremely watered down and nothing like a real pure acai bowl. This made me determined to find a place that makes it correctly.
After some research, I discovered Acai Brasil. (I decided to make the 23 minute drive out to try it. It can be a little difficult to find but if you use your GPS you should be fine.)
When you walk in, you are greeted with the smell of fresh ingredients and the sound of music sung in Portuguese. It is run by a lovely and hardworking couple. While you wait, you'll typically see smiling and happy regulars coming into the store.
My typical order is the very berry bowl with pitaya and condensed milk (I'm smiling just thinking about it). The first time I tried it, I understood exactly why my friend was telling me that I was missing out. It was so fresh and every bite is filled with amazing natural flavor. I became hooked immediately.
I brought each of my closest friends here and they all frequent the shop now as well. It's something you have to try for yourself. If you are questioning whether to try it, I promise you that you won't...
