Akashi Restaurant – Beltway 8 vs. 249 Location I’ve been a loyal fan of Akashi’s 249 location for quite some time — the food there is consistently flavorful, well-prepared, and beautifully presented. Unfortunately, my first visit to the Beltway 8 location was a major letdown. From the moment we entered, the warm greeting gave me hope. However, the meal quickly went downhill: Salt & Pepper Shrimp – The batter lacked seasoning and crispiness, leaving the shrimp bland and soggy. The onion and jalapeño “salad” tasted raw and unseasoned — not the zesty, marinated mix I’ve come to expect. Teriyaki Sea Bass Entrée – Served as three small fillets with a sauce that neither looked nor tasted like teriyaki. The overall dish fell completely flat. This experience was extremely underwhelming and unsatisfactory, especially compared to the consistently flawless dishes at the 249 location. 📸 The first three photos are from the Beltway 8 location; the video replay is from 249 — the difference speaks for itself. Plus I've ordered that dish repeatedly - Take Out and Dine-In.

The food and staff here is amazing. When my family and I decide to come here we try different things. So far everything has been good. Tonight we tried a few Martini’s as a starter 😬. We had the lemon drop, lychee, and chocolate Martini. The Lychee Martini was a favorite but the chocolate martini was a runner up. Before we received our entrees we enjoyed the pan fried gyoza, beef stick, and the sumo rolls. Each of us ordered the family dinner which came with a soup(we had egg drop and wonton soup) the appetizer ( butterfly shrimp, crab puff, and egg roll) so good! Our entree was broccoli beef with fried rice, and pepper steak. There was so much food that we couldn’t finish and had to take things to go. The price of everything was affordable, without mentioning the tip it was under $85 for three of us.

This was absolutely delicious. The sushi, the BBQ soar ribs, the salt & pepper calamari, the triple Mongolian delight and the Thai curry Shrimp and beef! Everything I tried was delicious! Had a Long Island as well and that was delicious!! Just wow! I left and was upset because I saw a lot more on the menu I wanted to try! The price is a bit high but when you taste the flavors and experience the service there you understand. This is a location that’s here to stay! And I don’t see how anyone could argue the quality of food and experience you’d have here the four stars is otherwise a five star if the price was a bit friendlier. However if you have the money or looking to splurge on a date night this is is a must! I’ll be going back! And their cheesecake was delightful! Different. But delectable!!

Have been here many times but this visit was very unpleasant. As we were walking in I noticed trash all at outside patio. Then the front door was broken with sign use the other door. We were seated quickly and our table was very sticky. The waiter took our drink orders and brought our forks which were still wet. We ordered and I asked if they had Child’s plate for my 7 yr old granddaughter? Waiter said they had French fries and chicken nuggets. So we ordered that and my husband ordered Happy Family. We also ordered two sweet and sour chicken for my 12 year old granddaughter and me. The wonton soup came out with little flavor and very doughy. We asked for pepper. Never received and tracked the waiter down to ask for salt and pepper again. She finally brought small to go packets. The sushi came out and we had to ask for small plates. Waiter finally brought them and we had our first bite and waiter brings our main course. First of all, waiter had not removed soup bowls and there was no room for food. Second of all, we wanted to enjoy our appetizer of 2 sushi rolls. My husband kindly asked if she could take the main course back . I asked for iced tea refill. No. I asked again and she poured tea into my glass and had no ice. I asked if she could bring ice. No. Finally waiter came back and brought iced tea. I had already drank the warm tea by that time. We were served our food (waiter had to be asked to take soiled dishes again) and we asked for hot mustard. Waited and waited and waited. Finally waiter bought small to go mustard in packages. The food was very subpar and quality had definitely changed. The sweet and sour chicken was all breading. Definitely a different vendor. The fried rice was very sticky with no egg or scallions and no flavor. My seven year old was served her “child’s plate ??? With nuggets and French fries when we were served soup. It was on one plate. Her chicken nuggets were decent and more white meat than my sweet and sour. Mine was chewy slivers of chicken. Server brought bill and never asked if we needed anything else and disappeared. I looked at bill and waited for waiter to come back. I finally went up to the bar and asked to talk to the manager. I asked him about $5.00 French fries and $6.00 chicken nuggets. I said it was a child’s plate. He quickly told me they had NO children plates. That we ordered two appetizers. Really??? The waiter specifically told me the choices. I did not ask about price. The quote”appetizers” came on one plate and definitely were not appetizer portions. So we paid more for child plate $11.00 which was more than adult lunch special. We were charged three sodas which we had three teas. Only .25 difference but by this time I am not only unhappy but very disappointed in our special outing with my granddaughters. I told the manager that the food was subpar, service was not good and signed my bill. He offered no apology and very uncaring. I do not plan to go back. Very sad bc this was a great place to go. I looked at the reviews and realized the last year the reviews had...

App/Online Orders/To-Go/Menu

There is NO app, which is to be expected of a restaurant with only 10 locations. Also NO online ordering. You CAN call in orders to go, but beware, they gave away my last order for pick up to someone else and I had to wait 15 minutes in the car with a hangry wife, so it defeated the purpose. Their menu IS available online and is accurate and updated to what you see in-store.

Location/Convenience

Their location is convenient if you're in the Atascocita area, and can be accessed or on your way to or from anywhere if you're gonna start by going down beltway 8.

Parking

Parking varies, and at peak times you may have to walk 15 to 20 spaces. No big deal.

Seating Wait Time

I've NEVER had to wait. Not to say that it's empty, but they have enough space to accomodate crowds and large groups.

Food correctness/Wait time

I have also never had my food come out wrong. Always comes as ordered and quickly

Food Flavor

It's average sushi. They have a great variety of rolls, sashimi and typical menu items like General chicken. It gets the job done. Spicy tuna rolls are great, and always get spicy ponzu sauce to kick things up a notch.

Service

Service has always been great, and I feel as if that is what makes it a good place to be a regular. They are prompt, correct and refills come often. Polite and fun to be around.

Value

For the price, it is a great place where you can enjoy good sushi without breaking the bank. That said, nigiri/sashimi prices are a little high for me considering I can go to Uni in the woodlands and try a ton of new sashimi 1 piece at a time for a relatively low price. Everything else--fantastic.

Experience

The ambiance is good. They do have 2 tv's with sports playing--1 at the bar and 1 above the sushi chefs. So if you want to watch the game, you can. The vibe is calm and quiet, and you can have a conversation without having to talk loud.

Go Back Again?

Would I go back? YES. OFTEN. They are quite a step up from grocery store sushi, close enough to not be annoyed by the drive, and since you can get in and out quickly it does a great job of blemding a sit down feel with a fast food pace. The only thing keeping me from giving them a 5 is that I've had higher quality sushi at...

Ordered two sushi rolls in the store and was told that there would be a 10-15 minute wait and that I should wait at one of the seats near the bar, which I did. After about ten minutes, the woman that took my order came out with 3 bags and sat them on the counter behind her. She continued to take additional orders on the phone and in person and then handed out 2 of the bags. She then disappeared to the back and returned 20 minutes later. At that time I asked her how much longer for my food, and she handed my my bag which had been sitting there 20 mins! She had brought it out after ten minutes but just didn't give it to me. There was literally ONE other person there waiting and only about 15 customers in the ENTIRE restaurant. She didn't apologize - just said here's your food and smiled.

Fast forward.... I get home and sit down to eat my sushi roll. The first roll - it was delicious. I start on the second roll, and it had a shard of metal in it. I call the restaurant and speak to the same woman that served me before. She said that she would be happy to remake the sushi roll for me, but I declined. I told her that I just want my money back. She said that the only way I could get my money back was to bring the roll back to the restaurant, which reluctantly I did.

Once I get to the restaurant, I ask for the manager. He initially saw me coming in and he disappeared to the back. The manager took about 10 minutes to come to the front of the restaurant to speak to me. I showed him the shard of metal in the sushi roll. He did not offer an apology, and only said that he will inform his chef. He offered to give me my money back. The sushi roll was $16.50 and he took $16.50 from the cash register. That's not actually what I pay for the sushi roll because I paid tax on it and I reminded him of that. Only then did he refund me the CORRECT total amount. Never once did he offer an apology! A shard of metal, and the fact that I had to return to the restaurant to give them the food that could have caused major injury to me, should warrant an apology, but it didn't!

Beware of this restaurant! The food at this restaurant is dangerous, and the customer service...
