I just recently had my hair done by Marissa on Thursday, 9/26/19. I just recently did the major chop in June so I could be natural and my hair stylist, although I love her to pieces, she wasn't really specializing in what i wanted. She was great with the press outside, perms and color, but while trying to define and figure out how to make my natural curls pop, I just didn't really feel she was it for that particular task. I went on Google and searched for natural hair salons for AFRICAN Americans for curly hair, and trust me, my hair AINT HURLY! There were quite a few salons and stylist that came up and after reading all the bios for about 5 different stylist and previewing their work, I liked Marissa the most for what I was trying to accomplish. I called her and spoke briefly, then a few minutes after hanging up I went back on her website and booked an appointment for the same day. I had a warm and fuzzy feeling about her and I'm glad I followed my gut instinct. Not only is she a very pleasant, super sweet and sensible young lady, she is very knowledgable and professional. She looks at my hair dry, felt my texture and immediately told me what my main issue is with defining my curls is lack of hydration and moisturizing, which I always though let was part of the problem! She then wet my hair and saw how my curls would respond to water and from there she worked her magic and educated me every step along the way. Each product she used, she explained why she was using it, the purpose of the product and what to expect from it if used consistently. I loved the fact that she was up front and never offered immediate results, she did offer immediate education and advised if I follow the plan, the results I seek will then follow. I love a person whose up front and tells me the truth rather than sugar coat it. She colored my hair, shaped it into something that presented a style although it wasn't what I wanted, she explained why it was best to cut it shorter and give definition rather than to keep the length it was at and have mo distinct look and I just trusted her logic and glad I did! I LOVE MY HAIR, the color, the cut, the finger coils, the moisturized feel, just everything about it! I loved her and her professionalism so much that I made an appointment and brought my 11yr daughter back 2 days later. Her hair has heat damage from getting it straightened by the Dominicans and blow drying along with constant wear of ponytails. Marissa, went through it and saw the potential and again, did sell me any fluff, she told me it will take much longer to retrain my daughters hair because it's almost like chemically treated hair although never had any chemicals and will need to transition back to its curls. This is how AMAZING she is... She provided a service for my daughter that she doesn't even offer just because she cared enough about her hair and what we are trying to accomplish. She gave me a plan for my daughter and emphasized that with proper care, her curl patterns will come back and she will be able to rock the hair she wants. She offered us the products we need and everything, so no more trying to figure it out, she provided the blueprint! I don't think I have been this pleased with hair care service in a long tim . She was professional, caring, have you in and out, no lengthy waits, no double booking, no overly exuberant charges, just great genuine, caring work! Marissa really knows curly hair! I was very nervous (like most curly gals) about getting my hair cut. This was my first ever curl specialist hair cut and it did not disappoint! I was hesitant about getting a DevaCut but found her listed under the Ouidad salon finder. She gave me lots of education about how to continue care for my hair and was showing me exactly what product she was using that day for me and why. I usually have to bring my products with me to a salon and that’s not a great salon experience. She washed, cut, and styled my hair and my curls have never looked that good and had that much volume. I felt truly pampered for one of the first times ever at a salon and also left very satisfied which has never happened before. I usually leave salons saying that will have to do. Even when I styled my hair myself at home after my cut, my curls still looked amazing and I was able to achieve the same look because of the cut, products, and technique she showed me. I also never felt pressured to purchase products from her but after my results I was more than happy to switch a couple of my products out for Ouidad. I don’t say this lightly when I say it was the best haircut I’ve ever had. I’ve literally never been able to be fully satisfied with a cut until now. The cuts are not a one size fits all. It’s based on your curl pattern and your shape so don’t expect your curls to necessarily look like some picture you bring in but I can promise you will learn to love your own unique and beautiful curls after Curly Berry gets...

I’ve finally found my curl guru in Marissa! She was gracious enough to take an afternoon cut/color/highlights appointment yesterday; I walked in nervous and left feeling confident, incredibly satisfied and so happy! After 20 years of sub-par cuts, I finally walked away loving my new style and color 😄 curly girls with textured hair know the struggle of finding someone who gets your curls, so I consider this to be a life-changing moment of sorts lol. BOOK HER! You will not regret it!

Marissa is incredibly talented, highly knowledgeable, professional and friendly. She was upfront with me about not wanting to go too light to avoid damage, which I greatly appreciate after many past moments of stylists doing whatever. She educated me on the best products to use for color-treated hair, how to properly put product on my hair and protect it while sleeping, the correct way to use a diffuser, and answered every question I had with patience.

We talked and laughed the entire time, and even as I left her salon at night she was gracious enough to wait for me to get picked up to ensure my safety.
