I've been seeking headphones that met a set of criteria that meant slim choices. Made a couple of purchases through Amazon and Best Buy that I returned because they weren't satisfying, but there was no way to try them out pre-purchase.
I knew HiFi Buys was an audiophile's dream and anticipated being intimidated and minimized by my budget of $400, which isn't much in the high-end audio world. I visited them on Saturday, July 10th, hoping to once and for all, find headphones that met my criteria, at a price I could afford.
Entered the store to find a headphone bar. Broad price range but all good quality, nicely displayed and ready to try. Met Chris Doughty, who was easy going yet very helpful, friendly, informative and not at all intimidating or dismayed by my budget. In minutes I was testing a set of headphones he recommended and they were PERFECT. On top of that, at this incredible store with amazing gear and true expertise on staff assisting me, these were cheaper than I'd seen them priced through other more general retailers. I should have begun my search at HiFi Buys!
After choosing headphones and making my purchase, then meeting their awesome resident pooch, "HiFi," as well as some other friendly team members,, and obviously with no more $ to spend, Chris asked if he could show my wife and I some cool equipment...just because it's fun and they seem proud of what they do and what they sell. Chris asked for a fav album choice from us, then teed up Pink Floyd "Dark Side of the Moon" on a system in one of their plush listening rooms. System cost as much as a nice house and was beyond anything I'd ever seen or heard. He then left, closed the door and let us chill on a leather sofa to soak up some Pink Floyd on a system that was mind-blowing. Disney World for audiophiles. Nothing more to sell us, yet he created a fascinating and fun experience for us.
I will be back at HiFi Buys for EVERY audio purchase I make going forward. Got the perfect headphones, with expert advice, at a great price, met a bunch of no-pressure, friendly folks and one awesome pooch, and had a blast experiencing some out of this world audio gear. A great customer experience! If you're into good music listening, just go here and tell them what you need. Hopefully you'll get to meet HiFi and Chris but either way, you'll be in great hands. Huuuuge thumbs up for the team...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI made two recent visits to Hi Fi Buys to purchase an integrated amp to pair with my newly-repaired Fuselier speakers. I was helped out by Ed Scruggs, who was patient and terrific! He guided me to what I believe was the best alternative, which also happened to be the least expensive! Because the Fuseliers are so efficient, I did not really need the more powerful amp I was considering; I saved hundreds of dollars by not going in that direction. In doing so, I had enough money to pick up Blu Soundās Node, which I am very happy about.
On my first trip there, Ed indulged me and my partner with at least half an hour in the storeās fabulous reference room. He has collected quite the list of demo tracks as well. He also showed me the Vandersteen 2 Ce, the model I remembered from decades ago as being my favorite.
When I returned this past Saturday, I brought my younger son with me because I wanted to introduce him to the pleasures of high-end audio. I wanted to show him the Vandy 2ās, but by the time I turned ar0und, he was gone; another friendly sales rep was taking him around, and I found him in the reference room! He was amazed, of course, and at the very least is thinking he needs better headphones!
Everyone I met that worked at Hi Fi Buys was pleasant, helpful and eager to share their love for quality audio. After returning home, I had trouble connecting a streaming service to the Node, and I called the store a few minutes ahead of closing. The person helping me out was generous with his time, and I sensed to impatience due to the time being near closing.
As audiophiles go, I am a ācheapā one, buying the least expensive equipment at Hi Fi Buys. But from the way I was treated by their personnel, I could have spent 100 times what I did and not been treated better. I donāt know what other high-end audio stores there are in Atlanta, but given that they carry Vandersteens, and NAD, one of the best price-performing pieces of electronics anywhere, and personnel that just canāt be beat, I cannot recommend Hi Fi Buys any...

About week or so ago I purchased a Rega P3. I also purchased the project tube box S2. I have had the Rega P1 for about 10 years and I have been very happy with it very much. wanted to find out if my turntable is still in good shape. I first purchased an Elysian 2 cartridge to see how that would work with my old Rega. When I went to pick it up I had a great conversation with David who proved to be a very knowledgeable and helpful sales person and he pointed out a couple of shortcomings with my old TT. So I decided bite the bullet and get the RP3 I set it up today and the musical difference was truly wonderful. It had only one problem. I noticed a strange sound coming from the turntable. I called David and he suggested I bring it in. Long story short, the problem probably is with the motor. No problem a new turntable is being ordered for me on Monday and Iām sure the lemon I got was very atypical and Iām really looking forward to getting that TT set up again so I can start enjoying my vinyl.
The bottom line here is that I will not hesitate purchasing any upgrades to my TT or getting any other new equipment. There is no pressure to buy, youāll get a great education and I think you will come to know the folks as I have and you will feel confident that you were being treated fairly by everyone there and become a loyal customer. And if you are looking for a turntable and everything associated with it ask for David. You will not be...
