In our recollection, few clothing stores, or in this case, clothing plus footwear, hats and even Cape souvenirs, leave a lasting impression. But like Massachusetts itself, the Mass Bay Company is quirky and surprising. Consider, what store features the occasional roving pooch or two, furry ambassadors? And the place is so expansive and full of quality apparel and things that such sightings blend with the overall I'm-on-a-shopping- safari feel. Of course, first timers may wonder if so many offerings are overwhelming. Not really, because at Mass Bay, service is their "secret sauce". Staffers like Ben and Heather, for example, are eager to answer questions, give directions and when needed, pull just the right sandal or boot from backstock. Like the durable hard-working Carhartt products they feature, the staff doesn't "mail it in" here; they want return customers and seem especially pleased with folks who linger and sample all their wares. Specifically, my wife and I were impressed with their collections of jeans (Levi's and Dickies), sandals (from Reef to Keen and beyond) and summer shorts (Carhartt); stylish sun-resistant hats and sturdy raingear fit for a gale also adorn the well-tended shelves. Ample fitting rooms are also available. In short, Mass Bay is a special store in every season. And while good clothes are not cheap, sale items around, too. So stop by, linger if you want and sample their...
Read moreAfter visiting the store on a Saturday, March 1, 2020, my husband saw a sign that had advertised three stickers for $15. We proceeded to the register and the man ring us up at a different price. He said I thought those were on sale and the man said are you military That only applies to military people. I said well I am prior military he said well where is your ID card! I said well I don’t have an ID card I served from 1981 to 1985 so I l no longer have an ID card. I have a DD form 214 to prove that I was in the military but that is besides the point. I wasn’t looking for a discount my husband just thought the items were on sale. Instead this rude man was very unprofessional and instead of him saying thank you for your service he treated me like I was trying to get away with pretending that I was in the military! He said to me anyone can say that they were in the military!I don’t think this is how you should treat your military members who have served in the military for eight years! I don’t think I will be coming back to your store due to the very heavyset employee who has a lot of facial hair and stands behind the counter looking like he can’t be bothered helping customers Very sad that he could not even give me the recognition of being in the service because I did not have an ID card. I will be calling the manager to follow up on this it...
Read moreI have been shopping at Mass Bay Company for about ten years. Yes, the scenery has changed over time but the comfort of a locally owned business is what brings me back. I do all of my Christmas shopping at MB, send/refer friends and family there, and enjoy seeing what new products they have in store year round.
I think some people need to understand that Cape Cod is not an easy place to own a business, succeed for over 40 years, and have prices that are generally better than the MSRP.
Good employees certainly aren't a dime a dozen, but there are a few particular people at Mass Bay that really genuinely know their products and deserve credit where it is due. Take into consideration that most places on Main Street see the ebb and flow of tourism, yet MB and a few others on Main Street stay in business and...
