A quintessential American Cafe/Diner with amazing breakfast options. Put a good Chef in the kitchen and surround him with efficient women for the perfect combination of authentic food and home like atmosphere you want to walk into when you just woke up and crave a coffee. The place is extremely popular - as it should be - and a queue is to be expected but also dealt with pretty quickly even during the busiest times. There are charming little booths for families and groups but I think the best seats are the red strip just opposite the food counter with an army of waitresses tending to all your needs: there is obviously a system in place and it is extremely well though from the moment you sit down and the table is cleaned and set up in front of you to the moment you get up and leave. If you are in for breakfast you might as well ask for a coffee first, it's black and smooth and served in a black mug and for less than 3$ you can drink as much as you want of it,"until you can't have anymore or we close" our server said 😄 Then you can start reading the menu and decide what type of bread you want for your toast and the choice isn't an easy one: I had a cinnamon toast which was slightly sweetly spiced but soft and fluffy and a rye mixed slice that was healthy and light. I opted for a hot blueberry compote, creamy and delicious with my grits and toast and undoubtedly just made with one ingredient 🫐 But think scrambled eggs, pancakes, sausages, bacon, french toast, omelette and potatoes and beans and whatever else you would call a full breakfast and you will have an idea of the almost unlimited combinations of how to start the day! The service is just how it should be, attentive but not overwhelming, kind and genuine : everyone is there if you need anything but nobody is on your neck rushing you out. What an absolute gem of a café, I was extremely lucky to find it, I don't even mind if I am Vegan ( I could have had a breakfast burrito) but I was so fascinated by my surroundings that I didn't care about anything else. Thank you so much for such an unforgettable...
Read moreThis place is good for breakfast all day. I'm not big on their lunch and dinner menus, but they do have them available. The restaurant is always busy and you may have to wait, usually less than 5 minutes. And be warned, it's not a place you can eat and then "hangout chit-chatting". They will rush you out to make room for the next person. Which seems legit for the people waiting, and I know it's in the best interest of the business... However, there are times when they are a little more pushy than courteous. We had a table of six, which probably means they pulled together 2 tables. Our bill was over $80. Three of our party we're finished eating and three of us were still eating, the waitress came and took our plates and began wiping off our table and asked me to pay the bill. Before we were all finished eating, they had worked around us to set out silverware and coffee cups for the next people... Taking away our cups in the process and not giving us a chance to really finish our coffee or...
Read moreWe had breakfast at The Daily Paper on Main because of the positive reviews; however, we had better food and service at other local restaurants in the area. We were seated right away inside, there was a wait for outside tables on the Friday morning we were there. We each ordered pancakes advertised as banana with candied walnuts. The three large pancakes were filled with banana and were moist and good but there were no candied walnuts, just finely chopped nuts on top. Three of the servers were standing around the "take out" register chatting the whole time we were there, and one was actually eating her own breakfast at the register. No one came around to offer my husband more coffee and he had to flag down a server to get his cup refilled. Also, I witnessed a female cook touch her hair while she was cooking and then go right back to doing what she was doing without washing her hands. Will we...
