The location is great, amenities are good, but the building itself and move out fees - not so much.
I chose to rent at Park 88 because of its concrete construction. Concrete is known to have good noise insulation. Yet at Park 88, the building somehow resonates all sounds in the building. Most notably the elevator (even when unit is far from it) and stomping from upstairs at all hours of the day. I can hear frequent shouting and stomping past midnight from neighbours that woke me up from sleep, it was scary. And I’m not a light sleeper. The doors would vibrate from steps and every opening and closing of the sliding doors upstairs can be heard. All management could do is send a generalized email to be mindful of noise past quiet hours. That didn’t do anything so if you are unlucky and get noisy neighbours then you will not have a good time. The walls are thin and I can hear music and talking from neighbours beside me as well. There is also garbage truck noise in early mornings but they aren’t as bad, I can sleep through it.
At my unit, all sorts of smell seeps in from the walls (sockets and cracks). For a couple of months, my unit would reek of strong smell of cigarette smoke at different times of day. I reported this but it was not solved until the renters moved away. Cooking smell is also very strong from the neighbours but that was not a big issue for me.
Then there’s the move-out fees. We have cleaned the unit to be cleaner than when I moved-in. But we were charged a hefty cleaning fees. We lost all the deposit and had to pay extra. We’ve never had to pay this much for cleaning fees before in any other apartments. It might be a change in building management in recent times. I’m not sure.
I lived here for 2 years - renewed after first year because I enjoyed living here. But it went downhill right after the renewal.
All in all, 2 stars given for the excellent location, building amenities and cleanliness (although the garbage room always gets filled with bags because chute is often broken. Everywhere else is clean). Also to Sally the resident manager who unfortunately moved to another role/building. 3 stars off for the actual living experience if you get unlucky with the neighbours, and for the...
Read moreI am updating my previous 5 start review due to some recent problems.
There was an unexpected plumbing problem a couple weeks ago that did not impact our apartment with the actual flooding, however ever since repairing the pipes we have and extremely inconsistent hot water (and the majority of the days have been only cold water). This has been going on for 2 weeks now and we have had MAYBE 4 days of hot water in this time. When talking to the office, we feel like we are being dismissed because "no one else has complained" which is what we have been told numerous times now. A plumber came in to fix the water and we had hot water for one day, warm water for the next, and then it was cold again. While the plumber was here he told us that it is NOT fully fixed and he would need to do additional repairs which would include turning off the water to the building for him to do it. We were then told that while we waited for this, we needed to run our water for 15-20 minutes in order to get it warm. This is ridiculous but I need a shower for work so I wake up at 4:40 am in order to run the water for 20 minutes before I actually need to get in at 5:00 am only to still find the water cold.
Three days after the plumber, we are back to cold water and the office staff yet again, telling us that they "thought it was fixed, you are the only ones to complain". And that this is an issue that they will need to communicate with the plumber about. We mentioned that while he was here, he told us he did not fix it and would need to return to do full repairs. The office staff acted like they hadn't heard anything about this "oh, that is something he will need to communicate with us". I don't know where the communication break down is happening but we have gone TWO WEEKS without having a hot shower and we pay $2,500/month (not to mention however much extra we are going to have on our water bill this month for being told that we just need to run the water longer and then it will get hot).
We do understand that emergencies happen, the original plumbing issue was out of their control, but we are extremely frustrated that our lack of hot water does not seem to be a concern...
Read moreMoving across the country can be difficult - especially if you only have 24hrs to pick your new home. Par gave us the best tour and continues to give us excellent service. Par was able to accommodate our last minute schedule change to see the property early and really listened to what we were looking for in our new home. One of the biggest selling points was that you can tell Par truly cares because she greeted every resident we saw by their first name - which she still does to us on a daily basis even though we moved in 3 months ago. Ermias and Joy were also very welcoming.
Since we have moved in, there are some things that are worth noting. The elevators were breaking down but the apartment has since rectified the issue. When we moved in, we were told the mail room would have a door installed soon to make it more secure but that Covid put a hold on this. Hopefully they do install this feature soon.
The entire maintenance staff has been excellent as well and they fulfill requests very quickly.
The apartment is always hosting a themed event which is a really great way to get everyone involved especially during these times when most of us are stuck at home.
I have seen that some people have mentioned the walls being thin but we do not hear anything from any of our neighbors, there is some noise from the street but it is not overbearing in any way. I feel safe here which is an important factor when shopping for a place to call home. With Molly Moon's downstairs, the only danger I feel living here is going broke by spending too much money on...
