I EXPERIENCED OVERT RACISM AND WAS FOLLOWED OUT OF THE STORE:
I don’t usually write reviews, in fact this is my first one. I didn’t understand until a friend pointed it out but I experienced racism from who I believe was the store owner (at the very least someone who works for them).
I wondered in while waiting for my friend for dinner at Chubby Curry (great food btw). When I walked in I was the only person in the store at that point and it was about 7pm. I was browsing and I saw these adorable and funny $8 coasters. I started looking and picking a few up to read it better. I noticed when I first walked in I was greeted by the store owner (a woman older than myself with an accent - the accent shouldn’t be taken into account unless it identifies her as the owner).
As people started to go in and out of the store I felt her presence never left me and at times she was hovering. I didn’t think anything of it, it was only when she greeted an older couple and I left and waited next door for my friend things were no longer “customer service”. I put everything back before I left because I didn’t want any misunderstandings and she followed me out asking if “I took anything from the store”. I told her no and didn’t really know what to do from there so I panicked and asked for their closing hours for the next day. Thankfully my friend came and our conversation ended.
For those who might think I promoted this in anyway, I didn’t. I was calm and treated her with respect and trust. I understand as a store owner you need to be cautious but this was too much. My experience in this store was short but sadly this interaction will not be as easily forgotten as this knick knack store.
I’m not even from California and thought that LA wouldn’t have racism like this. I’m deeply disappointed and unfortunately cannot support this store at all. I guess I will just find coasters somewhere else and will happily pay more if I have to.
Please do better as a store and reflect on how you come across to customers, especially...
Read moreI visited Epiphany in 2023 and had a great experience - they have so many pretty and thoughtful gifts to choose from and the owner was really welcoming and nice from the moment I walked in. I wish I’d asked her name but there was a young girl working there was one of the sweetest people I’ve ever met and I wish her all the best. They helped me select a gift for my friend who couldn’t come along after I told them I was looking for something made in California and I ended up with a really lovely...
