The area has been rebuilt, and now the place is just beautiful! Lots of good restaurants, some with outdoor dining and live music. There are just enough people walking about on the two popular âvillageâ streets to make it interesting but not frustrating. There are large covered fire pits in three locations where you can warm up a bit in cooler months, and throughout the area there seem to be a few areas with some benches if you need a little rest, or just want to people watch. The lampposts are of antique style and have potted flowers suspended from each arm. There are also planters filled with flowers, and a few life sized, carved wooden bears strategically placed, and suitable for photo backgrounds. Overall the visual effect is pleasantly beautiful bot day and night. So far my favorite vendors have been a little store selling T-shirtâs and sweat shirts that had some great graphics, and tag lines. I bought two, a hot rod shirt that simply had a great graphic layout of an old guy in a hot rod, and a shirt that had a nice fish graphic with a banner above labeled âBig Bear Lake Fishing Clubâ then below âYour bait stinks, and your boat is uglyâ. I also liked a âdogâ store that had spots on the wall for products that match most common breeds, and one heck of a selection of collars and leashes.. There is a rock and roll music venue where the two streets meet called the cave that Ted Nugent recently played. There are four bars along the two main streets, only two of which have I visited to date. One was just horrible, they did not accept foreign ID from a visitor in our group, and they literally search every person on the way in even though the average age within is above 50. The patrons looked like they were just a bunch of average parents hiding from their kids. The next place was ok and full of pool tables and a decent live band both nights we passed by (being Friday, and Saturday). Down a minor street between the two perpendicular main drags, I twice noted a small, stand alone, very packed, loud, wild, bar, but did not get a chance to get in there. Not sure why it was packed but will update soon. The two remaining places looked to be nice and will let you know with an update. At the end of the second street there was a restaurant called the Oak Room that appeared to be fine dining, with a very nice outdoor dining patio for their guests. The area is very walkable, and each of the five times I have visited there has been plenty of adjacent, street level, free, parking available. It is a must see in Big Bear, so save at least one mealtime to...
Read moreThis place is great. There are firepits outside, that you can get close to and keep warm. The atmosphere in the village is really relaxing the people are really friendly and a joy to talk to. A lovely place to stay at there cabins or hotel. The village is lit up at night with xmas lights, and makes it feel even more festive. You can bring your dog here,as the village is very dog friendly, they do not like it when people bring aggressive dogs,if you have one leave it at home. No one wants a dog that is going to attack another dog or person. And it is only going to ruin your day and someone else's.If you are that idiot that feels you have to bring snappy fido, then at least put a muzzle on him or her, that way no one will get hurt. And no its not cruel its protecting others. Ok where was I, oh yea,The resturants in the area is good for food, just need to see the menu first before sitting down,as some can be a bit pricey and it might not be what your looking for in a way of what you want to eat. If you go down the road towards the post office there is a small park and you can get a view of the lake,if you dont feel like going to far, from the village. The village it self is not big compare to other places, but it really is a peaceful place and cozy feeling. And people that I have spoken to were pleased that they came to big bear as I was also very glad that I came. And most definitely will return in the summer,to go boating...
Read moreWe went here while on holiday for Thanksgiving and got some pretty great stuff for a reasonable price, but we had an issue with the transaction that we did not notice until much later. In short, we were able to connect with the store owner, Jeannine, after hours to see about resolving the problem which she happily did. She was more than apologetic and kind about the mistake and she did wonderfully at reassuring us that everything would be handled, and it was handled.
The staff is very polite, engaging, and helpful. The overall experience was fantastic despite the unexpected issue. Jeannineâs fast and enthusiastic response to our problem only served to further our admiration of the store she runs. Her personal action on this matter was clear enough to see that the quality of her store and the staff she has on are only a reflection of herself.
My husband and I were very pleased with everything and we strongly recommend that anyone who is in the area...
