Not for curly hair.
Since the business feels the need to respond here and share customer information publicly here are some more specifics.
My haircut started over an hour late. When checking in I specifically said that I wanted a gloss, this was ignored. I was offered a conditioning treatment for free because my appointment started an hour late (great) but what I wanted was a gloss. I think the point of paying more for a curly haircut is that the stylist takes the time to cut to your natural curly pattern, this did not happen. The product and techniques used left my hair dry and frizzy. I have large soft/wavy curls the technique used was basically to cut my hair straight and twist my hair into super tight curls which doesn't work at all for my natural curly pattern and left my hair wavy, straight, and frizzy. I didn't have one bouncy curl leaving either appointment despite that being how my hair naturally dries. After the haircut I scheduled a gloss which is what I originally wanted and came back for that in the hope that the cut might be fixed. When asked how I liked the cut I specifically said it didn't really work for me, which was ignored and then we did the gloss, which was fine, but then again the styling was not at all how my hair curls and it completely ignored my natural curly pattern. Plus I was asked twice if I wanted my hair straightened which I specifically said in the consult and two additional times that I never straighten my hair and only wear it natural curly, the entire reason I am paying for a curly cut. Plus, since the gloss wasn't done during the original appointment I have to basically pay for things twice because I wasn't listened to. And now I need to go get my hair cut again by someone who knows what a curly hair cut is. Business says they would fix it but I have been there twice with the same bad results. There's no way I would go a third time. If I had straight hair it would probably be a great haircut but I have curly hair and unfortunately the technique used did not take my curl pattern into consideration. In terms of "leaving happy" I was nice about the entire situation, but the end result is I spent a lot of money on a haircut that doesn't work...
Read moreLana is a hair extensions goddess ✨ She’s been in the industry for years and when I happened upon Apothecary Salon when looking for a Boston salon specializing in hair extensions, I stumbled on one of Boston’s best kept secrets.
I hadn’t ever had extensions but have fine long hair with zero volume and have for years tried products promising to be the HG but never finding anything near that status so about a year ago I decided drastic measures were needed.
Getting hair extensions is a financial and time commitment, so I researched and consulted with a few stylists before deciding. Lana was the third stylist I met and I booked with her immediately. She’s super knowledgeable about hair in general, but specializes in extensions and has for years (i.e. before getting them was main stream) while staying cutting edge through professional development. Lana is also just super cool, alternative-chic, with a heart of gold. She has a unique understanding of the way her work inspires confidence in her clients and while it’s not explicitly discussed, it is clear it’s a priority and that’s threaded throughout the experience (from choosing color, length, etc.)
Apothecary Salon is on Wareham St. in the South End, it’s part of a cluster of small salon spaces (like WeWork for stylists) that cater to the client. The salon is spacious for four chairs with funky decor (leaping leopard wallpaper by Emmy Shipley is a highlight) and a chill vibe, no blaring music or any awkward situations like in large salons.
Lana’s work speaks for itself. I travel frequently for work and have been complimented on the quality of extensions and weaving by stylists across the country (NYC, CHI, DC, LA) who I see for blow drys before big events. I’ve never felt more confident and pretty - if you’re thinking about extensions, she’s the best in the business - book with her, you...
Read moreI reached out to Lana about hair extensions after getting a recommendation from my longtime stylist. I had never gotten them before so I was a little nervous but I trusted the recommendation. Lana was so quick to respond, super friendly, and made me feel so comfortable that we decided to book a free consultation. The salon was sparkling clean with a HEPA air filter to keep everyone safe and masks were worn. Such great ambiance with fun yet relaxing music playing, cute succulents and plants all around and great lighting. Lana explained all the options for extensions and we picked what was right for me. First she colored my hair flawlessly to the exact color I wanted, then I came back for the extensions to be put in. The only day that there were more than just the 2 of us in the salon, everyone was spaced out with masks on and a window was cracked for some extra air flow for safety... and I got my extensions! I can’t explain how amazing my hair looks and feels now, I’m a completely changed and more confident person. They are beautiful, perfectly applied and long lasting. But most of all, they look totally natural! Last week I went in for a hair check up and to have the extensions advanced up. It was a quick and easy process and Lana gave me some tips and tricks for little things I could do better for next time. I feel completely comfortable going to the shop and feel like a million bucks every time I leave. Overall an extremely clean, safe, and professional environment with a stylist who REALLY cares about what you want. I can’t recommend this place more! If you are looking for a place to try hair extensions for the first time, this is the...
