I went to see Gloria today and left quite happy!!!
First, the facility is accessible to standard sized wheelchairsāthe bathroom too. The bathroom has two horizontal bars and the toilet isnāt super low. For those who have allergies or chem sensitivity, they donāt burn incense or have air fresheners. There is a lot of airflow and space between stations, and I didnāt get any product from other stations causing a reaction. There was enough room for me to park my wheelchair near the barber chair and transfer if I wanted to, but transferring is not necessary, unless you want a shampoo service. I was given the choice to avoid this.
The cut itself was amazing. My hair is apparently a hidden challenge, itās very fine but very thick and the texture changes over the course of a 3 day wash, itās wavy but will go super flat if there is too much weight or humidity. My last stylist left uneven layers and seemed to get confused when connecting them, so I ended up with a patchwork mess. Gloria managed to repair that cut without taking any more length, so the next time I see her I can get the style I wanted in the first place! For the first time in 3 months I have symmetrical hair pressure. š This is important if you have a sensitive scalp. It also looks cute again, and best of all it doesnāt look like an accident. That sounds like a really low bar to clear but you all didnāt see what she was working with. It feels great. I already booked my next...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreHands down, THE best salon experience Iāve ever had. I am a 53yo woman with thinning grey, curly hair. Iāve been cutting it myself for years now and recently took an experiment with my feather razor a little too far.šš¤£ Been hiding a hot mess of a hairdo underneath a hairband for weeks! I decided it was finally time to get it cut by a professional and BOY am I glad I did.
Brooke @cutsbybrooke was so warm and caring and after examining the wreckage, (politely) suggested that we start from scratch with a pixie cut. I was all in. I explained that I was self conscious about a couple of spots on the back of my head that often appear to look like bald spots. She told me that itās just the way my hairline grows and cut the back of my pixie so that there are no more holes!! It is a precise cut and so well done and I absolutely LOVE it.
The vibe at the Blackroom was everything Iād hoped for: artsy and eclectic, yet laid back and welcoming. Was greeted by Celeste at the front desk who doubled as my hair washer (heavenly lilā head massage thrown in there) and checked me out when I was done. Sheās awesome too!! Cannot recommend this...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreToday I was a first time customer at Blackroom Salon and have found my new haircut place. The vibes were immaculate upon walking in, with their friendly receptionist greeting me with a smile and offering an assortment of beverages. The waiting area was comfy and spacious, and I didnāt have to wait long at all.
Khalee cut my hair and did a fantastic job, spending extra time massaging my scalp while she washed it and then taking taking her sweet time to give me the exact haircut I wanted. She asked many questions about my preferences, and as a transgender person this meant a lot to me as some salons are unfortunately not competent in this. Both Khalee and her supervisor who dropped in on us got my pronouns correct without any clarification needed and by the looks of the staff and clientele it was clearly queer competent and frequented by my affinity group. I would absolutely recommend this salon for anybody who requires extra attention to gender affirmation! Overall I had a great experience and will definitely be coming back. Thank you so much Khalee and Blackroom...
