I've always wanted to try aerial yoga, but I had no idea there was a place in Boston! Luckily, one of my friends knew Swet Studio offered the classes so we decided to try it. It definitely didn't disappoint. I bought the buy one get one free first class offer and it was a good deal, seeing how a single class can be around $20. It's a great way to see if this is your type of thing without the commitment!
I took the First Time Riders class and then the AG Beginner class. I didn't really feel like the First Time Riders class did much for me. It was helpful to learn the poses and transitions, but I wouldn't use one of your classes on this unless you're really terrified at the thought of the hammocks. I would've just gone straight to an AG Beginner class because they pick up the speed a bit more, but they will still help you with poses if it's your first. They also recommend taking two AG Beginner classes before you do the other AG classes, just so you are comfortable with getting in and out of poses more quickly. I'm not sure how necessary this is, but I'm tempted to just go into an AG Core/AG Fit/AG Barre class. The beginner classes will do a really good job with teaching you the basics but you won't really sweat. The inversions can be tricky, but the instructors do a really good job with making you comfortable and teaching.
Come early! I hit unexpected traffic along the way and I had such a hard time with finding parking. I parked a couple blocks away from the studio and was huffing and puffing trying to find the place. It's right next to Blackbird Doughnuts, btw in case you get lost like I did. Do not forget to wear a long sleeved shirt or to be on time. You will not be allowed to attend class if you don't follow both rules. For your first time, they will make you fill out a questionnaire so allow yourself ample time to find parking, find the place and fill out the required forms. I did see that there was a parking lot nearby, so consider that if you know you're running a bit late and won't have time to look for parking.
Sign up for the Perkville rewards system! I'm disappointed that I didn't know about it before because you get points for referring friends and checking in. These points could redeem a free class for you. I went with a bunch of friends and it would have been nice to refer each other and get points towards a class. Anyways, it was so much fun and I can't wait...
Read moreI was Interested in joining a class because it looked so fun. I’d say I’m a beginner trying to build up my endurance and thought that this would be perfect. I was able to book for Sunday 02/25th. I was a little nervous but still excited so I asked my sister in law to join me. We were so excited leading up to the day. When we first walked in there was no one to greet us. The class started at 9am and we were there at 8:30am. About 10 minutes later a woman runs in and asked if she could help. I was thankful she asked because it was our first time and I had questions. I responded by informing her that we were both new and needed to sign in. She said ok let me get your name. I must have told her my name 5-6 times and even spelled it but it was almost like she was purposefully trying to screw my name up. I eventually showed her my reservation on the app (Class Pass). She looked me on her computer and I seen her pull up my reservation with my first and last name and date/time but she turned to me and said “No I don’t have you in the system” I showed her my reservation through the app and she dismissed it saying there was nothing she could do because it was booked by third party. My sister in-law then asked if she could look her up. I glanced over at the screen again and seen that she pulled her up but then said she didn’t see a reservation. Others started to come in to start the class. It was too embarrassing to try and confront her about what I had witnessed so I just apologized for the confusion. She then went on and said that we should be in the intro class and the intermediate classes would be too advanced for us. Before even knowing our level of fitness. I’ll also add that we were the only POC in the entire room and she wasn’t making us feel welcomed at all. For my last attempt to try and be part of a class at Swet Studio I thanked her for her input and asked when is the next intro class and she responded to me “ it’s all online, I don’t know off the top of my head but I’m sure you'll find everything on our website”. I was disappointed with that response when a staff member doesn’t know or doesn’t want to share the information to an interested party. Needless to say, I will never bring my business to any Swet Studio and you shouldn’t either. The staff are unpleasant to POC and...
Read moreI've been going to Swet studio regularly for over a year now. I first started going there about 8 classes per month, and now I go there about 4 times per week (it gets addictive!). The studio has a boutique feeling to it with cool industrial/modern decorations. It is always an energetic environment, from the fun ambience of the colorful lighting to the upbeat music playing in the background. Because the classes are capped at 15 people, they are intimate and welcoming, and it ensures that you get all the attention you need from the instructors.
Speaking of instructors, Silviya and Veronika are the best instructors I've ever had! They are friendly, encouraging, and just fabulous :) They spend time on each client to make sure each exercise is done with the correct form. I still remember after my very first rowing class at Swet, I got an email from Veronika asking how I was feeling and how I like the class. She wanted to make sure I was feeling well from the workout, but still had just enough soreness to go back for more- and I sure did! The instructors also make sure you reach towards your personal fitness goals in a healthy way. I've steadily lost over 20 lbs and 3 clothing sizes since I started at Swet with the help from Silviya and Veronika (XOXO).
I love both the rowing and anti-gravity classes. If you're looking for a good HIIT work out, check out the Swet full body and Swet abs classes. Swet row is also a wonderful cardio workout that ensures you're burning up more calories than ever! Anti-gravity classes are always fun and challenging. Trust me, it's a revelation when you conquer moves on the hammock up-side-down!
Go check out Swet! you won't be...
