First time in the restaraunt last night with my S.O but unfortunately won't be back! I will say on the positive side that the atmosphere is beautiful and the main meals do taste great. Saving grace of the night was our waitress, who was very kind/attentive/apologetic.
I made my reservations online the night prior and selected a 945pm reservation at the fireplace. It should be noted that you can continue to make reservations past 11pm and the place is open until 2am. We were sat and unfortunately there really isn't a fireplace let alone a fire (it looks like just a hole in the wall with metal decorations inside). Seating here is more like low lounge chairs with small coffee table in front of you. You can definitely make it work as the table has 2 shelves - plenty of space. We were informed as soon as we sat that the kitchen closes at 10pm so we had to order everything we wanted including dessert right then. It's not indicated anywhere online kitchen closes at 10 and this was especially confusing given you could reserve tables past 11. But no worries! We looked at the menu ahead of time and would've been able to order right then. Wrong! The online menu doesn't reflect what's actually being offered in the restaraunt as the menu "changes frequently". What we had wanted wasn't being offered. I hope you don't want the burger, its not there. This is true of the drink menu as well. Found alternative meals and ordered.
For food, you do have the option of adding black truffle for an additional cost. IMO always worth it, truffles are a favorite and absolutely delicious. I ordered the steak frites and added truffle. No truffle to be found once served and I had to make sure with the waitress it wouldn't reflect on the bill ($30 upcharge for the truffle). Waitress looked too and didn't see them :( The food did taste wonderful, the favorite of the night was my boyfriends short rib. A little pricey, small portions, aesthetically pleasing. We also did order the pot de creme for dessert which was never served, the kitchen long closed. When we were ready to ask for the check we did mention that the dessert was never served. Confused, the waitress went to go check in the back saying "I do KNOW they made it, let me go check". She did bring one out shortly albeit pretty melty.
Oh! Also prior to arrival, parking was very hard to find and we spent a lot of time looping around to try and find somewhere. I tried calling the restaurant to let them know where we were in case we ended up being late but no answer - all 6 times. Left a voicemail and also didn't hear back.
Overall it wasn't the rare date night that either of us planned or expected. Made the best of it between the two of us but with the many negatives we wouldn't waste our time or money going back. Would not recommend which is such a shame because the atmosphere is gorgeous and the food tasted good. Clearly has potential but needs to work on...
Read moreI was really sad about my most recent visit to Wink and Nod. Will start by saying the arancini was amazing and my drink was great, but the service just negated everything else. After a great first visit a few months ago I brought my partner since I knew he would love the atmosphere of the place, but our service lacked from beginning to end. Manager Sean spent so much time at our table with nothing to show for it. He greeted us well and spent time talking up a drink to my partner, but we never got the drink. Manager also took our cocktail and app orders in the beginning of our visit, only to find out from our waiter when he got to the table about 20 minutes after our arrival that the manager never told him anything about the items we ordered... and it wasn't busy when we first arrived. At the end of our visit the drink we never got showed up on the bill and the manager did take it off, but this is the kicker, he offered the drink on the house and it never came either (after already not receiving it the first time). By that point we weren't sure if the place was understaffed/so busy the manager forgot everything or if he was messing with us. On top of that when looking at my final credit card charges a few days later the total was incorrect and I was still overcharged somehow. We only got apps because the service was so slow/choppy that we weren't willing to stick around and wait longer for dinner. Great vibes and love the idea of the culinary program, but service lacks hard when...
Read moreGot some cocktails and food here on a late weekday night, and sat at the bar. The bartenders were really helpful in suggesting which cocktails to get, and it was all really fun and tasty. The cocktails ranged from $15-$18 I believe.
Tea party: my all-time favorite cocktail. It's sweet but not too sweet, and undoubtedly earl grey flavored.
Put a spell on you: sweet/sour that is very absinthe forward and with a nice subtle pineapple flavor at the end
Pheonix: like a pisco sour
Tequila jam swizzle: like a margarita, but also has orange cranberry jam that has its fruit pieces in the drink
The food from SubRosa was pretty good and made well, but not really worth the price for me personally.
Pupusa: a pupusa with tiny zucchini chunks and melty cheese inside. The mushrooms are on the side. It's well made but I was expecting more than one for $16.
Crudo: raw scallops that are really buttery and sweet and tender. It's in a tomato based, slightly acidic from the yuzu, slightly sweet from the honey, with some sesame and herbs. 6 scallops for $22, but the cape cod bay scallops are usually on the more pricey side. Worth getting if price is not a concern!
Overall, I had a good time. Would come back again for the cocktails, and am also looking forward to their new future cocktail innovations. They have new chefs and menus for food every 6 months, so that definitely keeps things...
