étant, A Spa for Well Being — Local services in Boston

At time of booking to walking in I was not sure what to expect. When I asked questions about my services over the phone the front desk doesn't seem to know much about the service and what it entails. Also if you drive, good luck coming to this place and looking for parking. It took me over 30 mins to find a parking spot.

Walking in and view from the outside the spa looks very nice. Walking in to the front desk, the person who greeted me was nice. Offered water.

Greeted by my esthetician after a small form was filled out. Booked for brow tinting + waxing for bikini area. I was also booked for a "bikini plus" It was either a bikini, bikini plus or brazilian. Maybe I'm used to other waxing spas that specialize in that area but when discussing the wax area she explains that's not what I'm booked for or will be getting. I was just overall confused because I had no idea what she'll be waxing then or what they even wax in each tier. It's not my first time getting a waxing service from spas, so I am very familiar with these services. I also think her skills were just mediocre for waxing. Doesn't do any pre wax and post wax care!!! Just puts the wax right on it the second she comes back in. She asked me if I wanted lotion after she was done. Usually there's a proper care after already included from other places. Just by the look of the room it seemed like it was her own setup or rental. I've never seen a esthetician room set up like that. It looked like it was her brow tinting products although she said it was the company's. Her brow setup was in a makeup bag and the stain wasn't great at all. The first time she barely left it on, and then the second time I suggested we can take it off after the waxing service. It looked "better" but still was not great for JUST a stain that cost $40. (does not include hair removal, that's a separate service) My esthetician was VERY nice. She went to tell the front desk to change my wax service because she felt like she didn't do that much waxing after some discussion with her.

At check out, no one asked me how my services were. I would have expressed about the brow tinting service and maybe feedback about the waxing. Right away they told me how much it costed and asked how I will be paying. Luckily I had a gift card that covered everything even the tip! I wouldn't want to pay for...

My partner and I went for a 90 minute couples massage. We payed $485 and left $97 for tip and the massage left me in such excruciating pain. I went in to the massage not having any serious pain in my neck and absolutely no pain in my back. It’s the day after and my back is in horrible pain that I don’t even understand how, if they’re so called professionals, then the techniques and mechanisms used shouldn’t have caused this immense pain to me. After I left, my neck felt like it had serious knots and so much tension, and my entire body is completely sore that I feel very sick. My partner said that his massage was “the worst experience out of any spa” and we haven’t been to many at all, so that speaks volume. I seriously hope that this excruciating pain in my entire back leaves, because it is nerve wracking. That massage was DEFINITELY not worth $485, and with those prices it should be done with carefulness and quality. Now this is my experience and based on the reviews for others it’s been exceptional, but I’m from NY and came to Boston for a birthday trip for my partner, and did my research and thought this would be amazing but unfortunately it wasn’t. I was on a vacation getaway up in Boston, with every intention of having an amazing Spa experience and that I did! Everything was right on point from the friendly receptionist, to the service operators! The Staff at étant not only were able to accomadate my friend and I with our spa day packages (Massage, Facial, paraffin dips, and full body hydration wraps) which they were able to customize individually for our in specific needs. They were able to get us in the next day with no problem! The Spa was extremely clean and professional. As someone who is in the industry, I thought they succeeded in not only pleasing a quite particular client, but really making me feel at home and as if I have been going to the spa for years! The massage therapist, Keith, not only does he have an amazing energy about him, he gave me one of the best massages I have EVER received. Keith set my standard extremely high for a massage therapist in my home location of New Jersey.
