James Joseph Salon — Local services in Boston

This salon is great, but Kerri is an absolute rockstar. I have naturally very dark brown hair and wanted to go a little lighter and add some dimension to my hair. I spent a long time searching through yelp and google reviews and instagram accounts before I found her.. and she was TOTALLY worth the research. She knew exactly what I wanted and what would look good with my hair and complexion and I trust her implicitly. She is so professional and her work is flawless every time.

I had to move to Portland, OR for a year and flew BACK to Boston to have her do my hair in November. After a similar search online, I thought I’d roll the dice a couple days ago out here in Oregon for a partial balayage and it was such a mistake. The girl was very nice, don’t get me wrong, but she fried my hair to a raw, yellow, bleached out mess and I was freaking out.

I texted Kerri immediately for help and she talked me down, sent me photos of MY hair after a previous appointment with her for comparison, and told me exactly what to say to the stylist when I went in to have it fixed. This is why she is such an incredible stylist. When I fly back to Boston in April I’ll be going straight to the salon for a touch up.

Moral of the story: Recognize the good thing when you have it, and travel 3,000 miles if...

I had recently visited this location after some very high recommendations from friends. Setting up appointment was easy but that is where the trouble began. I show up at my scheduled time 10:30 am and was told I didn’t have an appointment. Then they scheduled me at 3:15 pm instead. No apology. I later get a call saying my appointment was moved to 4:30 pm. Alright. I needed a haircut so I moved my schedule. I show up at 4:30 pm and the stylist introduces himself in a rush and I am made to wait another 25 mins. Finally I get in the chair and he chops my hair off with a machine without using any scissors or comb. I am appalled. Alright, so after a quick wash, he gets me back in the chair and I ask him to blend it all, he gets pissed and is super rough. He scratched my left cheek with a comb. No apologies. Keeps going. Finally I am done in exactly 20 mins. One of the worst haircuts I have had in my entire life! I wouldn’t recommend anyone here. Time to get off the chair and I am told “Don’t pay the salon, Venmo me the money”... WHAT!!?? This stylist is super sketchy. Beware. There were some others there that seemed professional. I’d rather just have an animal chew off my hair than see that...
