Main Street Sports — Local services in Breckenridge

I rented a set of skis (middle package) for four days and a snowboard (beginner package) for two days online prior to a trip. Their online rental process was extremely smooth. A flight delay caused me to miss my evening pickup time, but I called and let them know the issue and they had my paperwork ready to go at 8AM sharp when they opened the next morning. Fitting for boots was quick and accurate. I also requested a slightly wider ski (92mm underfoot instead of 80) for powder skiing and there was no issue. I was in an out with my gear in 15 minutes. When I went in to exchange my skis for snowboard after 4 days, again... 15-ish minutes. After a day of snowboarding (10 runs on the quicksilver lift), I had my fill of falls while practicing S-turns and decided that snowboarding simply wasn't my thing. I took the board back in and asked if I could trade back for my previous ski equipment. They were very accommodating and I got back the same gear and really enjoyed my last day of skiing in the snow. I did travel in a group with Austin Skiers. After seeing the prices at the suggested on-mountain location I shopped around and looked at reviews. The prices here were about half of on-mountain and they had good reviews. After I let people know about the pricing I received, 5 or 6 others in the club decided to go with this location also. Those that I talked to had similar experiences to me. One lady swapped her demo skis a couple times to try various equipment and another guy swapped boots halfway through the trip. Everyone I talked to had similar experiences to me with outstanding customer service and attention to detail. In my opinion 5 stars is well-deserved. My only reservation is that if I promote them, they will get popular and the masses will ruin it. Here's hoping for the best. Couple other notes: Their website talks about parking issues. I can see how that would be a potential negative. I walked there from Beaver Run Resort and had no issues even carrying my gear back. But most of the older members preferred to take the free local busses or the complimentary resort shuttle. I would recommend walking or taking the shuttle/bus vs parking there. Also, I grabbed my shoes after I was done with my last day skiing and then skied down to the shopping area below the quicksilver lift. This left me less than 0.25 miles from Main Street Sports. Lastly, I forgot to mention before that the quality of the equipment was excellent I thought. I have been to other resorts where the equipment appears to have been heavily used. But we were all pretty impressed by the quality of the gear. I think they do a good job of cycling in new pieces and pulling out the tired old junk. And one more thing... the location is very close to lots of brewpubs, restaurants, and shopping if you are into that...

Was extremely disappointed with the lack of customer service and guidance of options when renting skis last week. I chose Main Street Sports due to their reviews and the fact that they are a family owned business and have been in Breck for many years. I was hoping for guidance from the staff to ensure we made the best choices in ski options and that in fact did not happen. When I filled out my rental options on the website I chose Demos for my 15 year old son, which I wanted to rent with a damage waiver. I did not see this option on the website so planned to obtain it when I got to shop. When we arrived they did inform me that they do not allow damage waiver for Demos, however did not think it would be an issue since rarely due the skis get that severly damaged where in turn the renter is obligated to buy them. Against my better judgement I rented them, and, as it would turn out, my son did damage and we ended up coming out of pocket $250 for the ski. If you chose to rent from Main Street I recommend that you do NOT rent Demos for your children, and do obtain damage waiver on the other skis, especially is they are hitting single and double blacks and bowls. The manager was empathetic with our situation but it was clear staff did not care either way. I was disappointed that the Owner did not come out given how upset we were about the situation. I chose Main Street Sports based on price and positive reviews. I would categorize Main Street Sports as completely adequate but not exceptional.

We picked up skis on a Sunday evening, and it wasn't busy. We dropped off on a Thursday evening, and the place was packed with people dropping off and picking up equipment! Both times, the staff were cordial but not necessarily what I would call friendly.

We rented in advance online, which worked fine. Very similar to other places. The pick up process and drop off process was also fine, but dropping off was a little chaotic because of how busy they were and the store is really small.

My biggest complaint is based on expectations with other rental shops I've used. We were planning to ski two days, take a day off and then ski a third day. Other places I've rented (in other towns) will only charge you for the ski days. At Main Street Sports, they charged for all days we had the equipment. That's fine and I understand. It's their choice, but they should know that customer expectations are set by shops that go above and beyond to provide a better customer experience.
