(Was here in mid May 2024) So, the food, service, got 4's but over all they got a 1 then, now they have a 3. Why, read on.
I'll tell you why: the owner overpriced his pastries even for Breckenridge, AND his tax being charged was over 1.5%+ more than it should be. HELLO Breckenridge! Code Enforce Much?
He also has some bogus "bakers fee" or some such at 3%, What the he!! is that, an extra way to make 3% and tax us for it.
My family loves their pastries, so they went several times but be ready to get charged a couple extra $$ per order. Are you submitting ALL those taxes to Colorado and Breckinridge? 8.875% will go where it should.
Watch out when you get the pastries, and the staff there like to pick the smallest ones to give to you till those are all gone.
Also, I think they are violating Colo. Code Regs. 39-26-102(4.5) If it is truly a bakery, it is supposed to be taxed like food for take out.
In the code, any bakery where the customer is getting the baked goods for take-out, the food should not be taxed. Right, not there, full blown 12+% taxes and "fees".
Back in Breck (May 2025), owner must have seen my review, our Breck code enforcement did. Still charging his "bakers fee" that I don't know what it is for, but now it is only 2%.
But after retrying my math, getting charged about 8.87% now.
So I've bumped up my rating to 3 stars. I still think the food is high priced but "everybody is doing it" because of covid, the economy, the current administration putting tariffs on imports that cause everything to sky rocket. High prices that get passed on to us.
Your pastries are still really...
Read moreFirst off, an important caveat: if they've cooking anything for you, give it 15 or 20 minutes. Cute low-key little place near everything, at the end of main street up by the mountain and the village hotel (by the base of peak 9). Nice for breakfast and lunch. Down some stairs on the two-level set of shops, by the Cajun place. Friendly staff. They cook everything warm fresh while you wait, so it's not quick, but it's good--like, for example, if you order a quiche they cook the crust while you wait. Good latte and regular coffee. Their chai is made from a bottled liquid, but was made with real milk, and as the staff said, it was more spicy than sweet. They said the liquid was fresh-pressed in Colorado, and I'm picky about my chai (I prefer loose-leaf), but it was very good. Other than 'ffee and tea, not a huge drink selection. The pastries were also excellent and fresh. A few kinds of beignet (including chocolate or cream-filled, and there was way more filling than it looked like in the case), eclairs, fruit pastries, nice cookies, croissants (filled and not). The baked goods also seemed fresh (soft, and definitely not stale). It wasn't cheap, but it wasn't shocking, either. Pastries were about $4-$5, so an okay breakfast. The warm, pressed sammiches were about $9+, and the bread was excellent, although the mozzarella...
Read moreMan! I haven’t had a French meal that good since Avignon-I posted this review 2 years ago
Today I’m in Breckenridge again dining at my favorite French spot in Colorado. I’m alone, but who needs company when you have lovely Chateauneuf-du-Pape to entertain you. 1st course always tartar.- I can’t tell if it’s the fresh baked bread or beef, but it definitely hits the spot. 2nd Dish, magnificent bone marrow escargot-fantastic. At this point, I regret ordering the main. Should I cancel my order and get two more orders of escargot? It’s too late. The main is here. Wow, i’m angry. The main is amazing. I can’t pronounce it. It’s a seafood goulash. Piping hot and epic. epic! (Get it?) I’m angry because I just realize this is the best French spot in 1000 mile radius from Chicago & LA possibly one of the best meals I had this year and it’s not in Denver. Oh, and let me tell you about the staff. Unacceptable. When I dine in France, I’d like to be marginalized and dismissed. This is what I’m used to, and this is how it should be. But apparently not in La Francaise. Joe My garçon was definitely too nice and too good and he drink wine. I really hope when I die, I go to heaven and there’s a version of bistro like...
