While on paper this should be wonderful place to live, in the three years of me living there, I don't think a week went by without me seeing something broken or damaged in the complex. For the money that you pay, it is not worth it and I recommend living elsewhere. My ceiling leaked since I moved in and I would have to keep going back to staff to report the leak that they claimed they fixed, and sometimes remind them again as they would forget. My ceiling had water damage and my couch was ruined. Another time, I was gone from my apartment for a month and came back to a giant hole in my ceiling that they forgot about... My apartment is not the only one that had ceiling leaking issues. I have heard multiple other people with similar issues. I feel fortunate that my leak is not over my bed as one of our neighbors gets woken up to being rained on multiple times. One of my neighbors was moved out by staff and came back to find that all their cutlery and cooking ware was gone. The staff did not know what happened but gave them a voucher to buy new ones. Another neighbor had drywall all over their furniture after they were moved out for repairs... There are many more stories. Also, the water faucets has black sediment on them also that you have to wipe away.
Other issues: the doors will be broken allowing anyone to get in so there was robbery issues as thieves were robbing sneaking in and robbing apartments. Also, the broken doors allowed anyone to use the amenities that we pay for. For the pool, the staff sometimes close it for long periods of time since 'some people ruined it for everyone else'. I have never seen so much dust accumulate in such a small period of time than in Carolina square apartments as well. Staff constantly say they will do something and then I have to remind them two weeks later as they forgot or don't tell you what they are doing to your apartment and someone just shows up and tells you that they are going to be in your living room for a couple hours to repaint. The hallways, stairways, elevators usually have trash in them-- college kids I know, but they should not still be there a week later. Yes, if you are an older couple do not live here as it is full of UNC students and your neighbors will be quite loud and rowdy. Another issue is that an elevator is always broken which is another inconvenience.
I will say that the staff are polite and friendly when meeting with them. But, the issues of the building itself and their lack of follow through are constant problems.
The amenities, bathrooms, hot water, and rooms are all nice and would be 5 stars. They are just sabotaged by a poorly constructed building.
I have never written a review before--carolina square has...
Read moreUpdated review: Although I’ve enjoyed my time here, these past few months have been frustrating. For some reason c-square decided to do renovations at the worst times. Firstly, they renovated the pool area right when it started getting pretty out. Secondly, a construction project has recently just begun on the porch outside my unit. As it is graduation weekend this is unacceptable and extremely inconvenient. My roommates and I all have family coming to town and we’re under the impression that our personal porch would be available for use, yet we are unable to even walk outside due to this construction. I am not complaining about the construction itself, but I believe there should be more oversight regarding the timing of these projects. Moreover, tenants were not given any prior notice before these projects, and when we asked the front office it seemed they were either unwilling to give information or were unaware of them. As a senior this is very frustrating and unacceptable with not being able to use our porch and being woken up early in the morning to loud construction our last week. P.S. there have also been awful smell and fly problems by the front door of the building. :(
Old review:Amazing place to live and super helpful front office and maintenance teams!
I've lived here for 2 years and cannot applaud the maintenance guys enough, especially Jeremy Gunn. Put in a request for help with my shower drainage and he quickly fixed the issue and went beyond to also upgrade other appliances in my bathroom. Super great guys and efficient work whenever you need it.
I’d also like to give a shout-out to the front office employees, who are always eager to help with any issue and are exceptionally friendly with residents. Cameron, in particular, recently joined the team and has already assisted me with numerous tasks, always showing the utmost patience and kindness. He even goes above and beyond by taking the time for friendly conversations whenever I grab my morning coffee from the...
Read moreThe lease mentions giving notice 60 days before you move out from the apartment even if you are moving out on the given date. In my opinion this is an obscure rule and should require an adequate reminder to the tenants out of courtesy. The only reminder that was sent to my roommate and I was through the resident portal messages instead of directly to our email or mail. This is not a source checked daily by anyone I know and is used strictly for making payments by my roommate and I. When management was asked about this method of notification they claimed to have called us numerous times and left messages as well. However, neither my roommate or I ever received a missed call from Carolina Square. This was a straight up lie that was told to us. We are now stuck paying hundreds of extra dollars because we were not notified in a proper fashion. Yes, it is in the lease, but that's a lease that was read over months ago and every detail is not memorized. Out of decency, proper notification should be given and when neither roommate replies to the original notification, it should be taken as a sign that a different method should be taken like perhaps an old-fashioned piece of paper on the door. In addition to this, our move-in date got pushed out twice and the elevator in the building broke down multiple times. When we payed our application fees and agreed to live here it was under the knowledge that we would be able to move in mid-July and receive July's rent free. When we received our lease to sign, they had changed the move-in date to August 1st and a few months later changed it once again to August 10th with no rent free at any point. I would have never signed with them had I known any of this was going to happen and I will not be recommending Carolina Square to anyone. I can't wait to no longer have to deal...
