I'm going to tell you how I really feel. This was one of my most regrettable hotel decisions. I booked it before construction was complete because I really enjoyed the Moxy NYC Chelsea. I do not think it was made clear we were booking a bunk bed, I could be mistaken on that part and if so I withdraw surprise bunk beds as a complaint. Even if I'd expected it, I would have regretted it. Fully formed adults shouldn't be going up and down uncomfortable to step on ladder rails to get to bed. At least build in stairs gang. The use of space was horrible. There is no way to sit on the bottom bunk to rest. It's too short underneath the bunk to really sit up, and the part the bottom bed that extends beyond is designed in a way that prevents it from being used as a seat. You have to crawl under the bunk to turn some of the lights on and off. The TV is mounted on the wall facing another wall. The bathroom was decent but the sliding door bounces back open awkwardly. Floor to ceiling windows with breathtaking views of the transit station. And while you're looking at the ceiling stop to take in the unfinished concrete that I guess is supposed to be industrial chic, which seems like a weird choice for a place that relies on heavy handed use of cuteness. The app was also a disappointment. They offer mobile check in and mobile keys. I checked in on the app and it said a mobile key would be delivered in a few minutes, so we sat in the lobby and waited 10-15 before giving up and going upstairs to the reception to check in the old fashioned way, which is located on the top floor with no real indication where it is until you get into the elevator. There was no ice machine on our floor and a sign saying to go to a different floor, but the key cards will only let you take the elevator to the floor your room is on. So after coming in exhausted at 1 am, the guy who let us in let us set awkwardly in the lobby without offering assistance, finally getting to my room, I then had to take the stairs for ice. It was just a full bummer. I guess you guys are getting two stars for having cute wallpaper at the...
Read moreThis 1-star review is solely related to the service at this hotel. All interactions with hotel staff were bad. Starting with the service at the bar. We arrived early around 2:15 PM so our room wasn’t ready, so we decided to try to grab a drink at the bar. I have never been so blatantly and purposefully ignored by someone in my life. The bartender went out of his way to ignore me and my partner who waited at least ten minutes to be acknowledged. It wasn’t because the bar was busy, which we would’ve easily understood. The only people at the bar were three individuals (with full drinks) sitting separately and one couple (again, with full drinks). The bartender made eye contact with us several times but intently initiated conversation with the other people at the bar even though they did not need anything. We only got two drinks because of this and both were made with reluctance. We honestly couldn’t understand the need for this behavior but blew it off and went about our day. However, upon checkout the valet charged us for an extra day of parking that should not have been charged. We only noticed this after we had left the hotel and when I called the Moxy, the gentleman that answered the phone seemed annoyed at the concern and said I needed to call back at 3:00 pm when the manager Dwight was in. When I called for the manager he said that since it’s a third-party vendor he would need to visit with the vendor to request a refund, which I expected. It has been over a week and I have not heard back, nor have I been refunded. Overall it seems that the staff does not want to be there and because of this they will not make an effort to make it a pleasant stay. The hotel is clean and newer so the amenities are nice, but expect rudeness and attitude...
Read moreThis was unfortunately not a good experience. My husband booked a room here for my birthday weekend, and from check-in, things were off. The check-in desk is located on the rooftop, where a loud party was happening. The music was so loud that the receptionist and I had to yell just to hear each other.
We checked in, received our keys, dropped our things in the room, and went out for the evening. When we returned, our keys no longer worked. At the desk, we were told there had been an error with the payment method (red flag #1, since we were never notified beforehand). Our belongings were locked inside the room, and we had to provide another card. The payment didn’t process correctly at first, so I had to run it twice before it “mysteriously” went through.
When we finally tried again, the keys still didn’t work. The receptionist came with us to help, but on the elevator, a drunk guest repeatedly held the doors open. When my husband politely asked him to step inside so we could continue, the man became aggressive and attempted to charge at my husband, ultimately pushing the receptionist. Thankfully, she diffused the situation. She apologized and assured us that one night would be removed from our stay to make up for the issues.
By Monday, I was told it would take a few days for the adjustment and security deposit to process. Two weeks later, my card has still not been corrected—and it looks like I was charged twice, just as I feared from the start.
I understand this is a newer hotel with a unique, minimalist concept (similar to a New York–style studio apartment), but there were too many problems for me to want to return. What should have been a relaxing birthday weekend turned into a stressful experience, and I’m still dealing with...
