My mom and I went in looking for a specific book, when we couldn't find it ourselves we went searching for assistance. We were ignored at the help desk as the attendant started a conversation with someone who hadn't been waiting in line. So we then decided to approach someone on the floor. My mom asked a girl if she worked there, rather than simply replying yes she looked down at her badge and didn't answer. I was standing from the opposite direction so I was able to see the girls eyes very clearly as well as the look of annoyance that consumed her face as my mother stoped her. From the position in which my mom was standing my mom wasn't able to notice the girls eye movements and asked again. The girl then held up her badge with out saying a word. My mom and I attempted laughing off the situation with her, explaining that my mom had simply been confused. Yet this girl made it very obvious that our asking for help was a huge inconvenience on her. I work in retail and perhaps this doesn't apply to Barnes and Nobles but at my store- we are taught that taking care of our paying costumers is of great importance. Granted I don't go shopping very often, I have never experienced such a rude attitude from a sales associate in my life. Ultimately she did help us find the book, but she hastily handed it off to my mother as she started walking away, not even looking at my mom as my mom thanked her despite the horrible attitude. The only redeeming factor of today's visit was the nice gentlemen in the front who rung us up and took the time to answer our following questions that the other sales associates clearly couldn't have been...
Read moreI ordered textbooks twice and both experiences were AWFUL. The first time the order was wrong and took place in the arden store. The second time I decided to bypass the store and go online.I paid for expedited shipping and the book didn't arrive until six days later.I had an email saying it had shipped the next day but according to customer service it didn't ship until three days later. They didn't refund my money and I made a formal complaint via email to the vice president(according to customer service) and someone called me back the next day just to tell me she can't do anything for me after 17 minutes. The customer service and problems from with this company in regards to ethics in business is appalling. I couldn't even use the coupon they sent me in my email the week before. Do yourself a favor and use anywhere else for books. Be aware also that they don't rent for the standard 120 day semester but 60 days instead and thats why the price looks low. This is different than other places also.I will never return to Barnes and Noble. There isn't diversity in their stores either. The stores are outdated...
Read moreA nice big store with lots of quality merch. It is organized, clean, and cozy. However, they don’t treat their employees fairly by any means, and i have compassion for those who work here, putting up with the mistreatment from the management. Even in the short time i have spent in the store i have personally been witness to the domineering and insulting manner in which they treat their employees! Sophia, the manager, carries on demeaning her employees’ intelligence, passive aggressively showing a less than pleasant side of her ego, inevitably staining this B&N store with an emotional undercurrent that i can only describe as apathetic, anxiety-inducing, and stressful. i cannot imagine this bookstore makes for a fair, or even tolerable work environment, and that impression has ruined my own experience as a customer. I’m sure there are plenty of other bookstores with human beings who are treated with respect, as valuable, and with decency. I will find those, and shop...
