Very nice boardwalk for a walk or bike ride. It's long and wide with great views and people watching. There are plenty of very nice benches to sit on and watch the ocean if you get tired. The beach is wide clean and beautiful. Truly worth the visit. Unfortunately, this is an extremely popular place. Beware; the parking is a nightmare. We had to drive around for literally 20 minutes to try to get a parking spot. We finally got lucky when we spotted a family walking with all their beach stuff and followed them back to their car and waited a while for them to get all the gear and kids into the car and pull out. And that was just sheer luck. We could have been driving around for another 15 minutes if we didn't get lucky. The other odd thing is the surprising lack of a decent place to get food and drinks. Considering the sheer length of the boardwalk, there are only a couple of very crappy food vendors that are all attached to public toilets. Yuck! Why??? There is an area with food trucks in one of the parking lots, but the boardwalk itself is strangely devoid of any decent place to eat. Overall; Scores a...
Read moreGreat place to take the kids, the parents, the singles, the couples, the aged, the disabled, and everyone in between. Plenty of seating. There are almost 1,000 benches (Yes, I counted them!!) along the 2.1-mile stretch of Brazilian hardwood. This Boardwalk was completely rebuilt after Super Storm Sandy and it is breathtakingly beautiful.
During regular hours bathrooms are available. Food vending is available on most nice days. There’s also a food truck lot on Riverside Ave with wheeled vendors of the brick-and-mortar restaurants in town. You will not leave hungry!
Come for the sunrises, the sunsets, or (better!) for both! I hope to see you there. Plenty of free parking. Bring the kids but please leave the pets at home. The Boardwalk is off limits to our furry friends because they want to make it enjoyable...
Read moreThe “City by the Sea” was sold by the Rockaway Indians to the English colonists in 1643. Situated in Nassau County, over the border from NYC, this beach town is really beautiful. In the movie “The Godfather”, the Corleones supposedly owned a compound in Long Beach. If you want to come here during the summer and you’re not a resident, you need to purchase a pass: they have season passes ($100) or $15 for the day. There are a number of restaurants and bars located in the area & there’s also a beautiful hotel located on the boardwalk. Most non-New Yorkers probably won’t know about this place, but they should. The beach and the boardwalk are beautiful in the summer and the shoulder seasons. I...
