I visited the store around 5 PM today to quickly buy some gifts for friends. I was in the store for less than five minutes because I knew exactly what I needed. When I approached the counter, a young man and woman were chatting and didn’t even acknowledge me until I called out to them. The male associate finally came over, and I politely asked if they had gift boxes. To my surprise, he laughed at my question, which felt completely inappropriate and unprofessional. After I checked out and paid, I asked if they needed my phone number for the purchase. He replied, “Do you even have an account with us?” I said yes, and wondered why he hadn’t asked in the first place. He then entered my number, but never asked if I wanted a printed or emailed receipt — he simply said it would be emailed. As I grabbed my bag and started to leave, he turned to his coworker and said, “I really can’t do this anymore,” right in front of me. His coworker looked at me, and I felt incredibly uncomfortable, even though I hadn’t done anything wrong or asked anything unreasonable.
