Uptown spent a lot of money renovating this park. Before it was renovated it wasn't the prettiest park ever, but it was always full of dog lovers and people exercising and playing sports. They closed it down for wayyy longer than planned and now it's a lot less usable. Again, what did people use it for? Exercising their dogs and playing sports. Now there is no usable space for sports and they are fining people $200 for having their dogs off the leash.
Not to mention, the entire middle part of this park has major drainage issues. It was not designed well. It gets all fenced off every time it rains and is unusable.
One of my biggest issues with this park is that it has so much space! They created a mound so that you can either sit on it and see downtown or be shielded from downtown by it. However, there is all this space behind the mound that could VERY easily by fenced off as a dog park! Everyone would win! They would keep the unleashed dogs out of the way and give all of uptown's dog lovers a big safe space to play!

Read moreI’ve walked the State/Thomas area for nearly 2 years and never knew this little gem of a park was in this area. Walking down Thomas was a slightly different path than my usual route. I literally came upon Griggs park. It took me all of 15 minutes to circle the entire park. It’s not large in area but it does pack great natural goodness. For instance, the park is surrounded and situated smack dab in the middle of connecting apartments and houses. It gives the illusion that the park represents a courtyard. It sports a playground for the kiddos, lots of grass for the pets and plenty of room to gather and socialize. At the far end close to Central Avenue is a basketball court. The trees are in full bloom and sporting greenery. There is enough space for a soccer team. As a matter of fact, a soccer league was at practice. I absolutely love this park. There is a great view of...
Read moreGriggs Park is beautifully maintained. Its expansive green space is perfect for a picnic or a game of toss or tag. Doggie poop bags are provided for those dog walkers who may run out while in the park. The children's play ground has safe updated equipment. The surrounding neighborhood is classy and the area is rich with Dallas history. Take some time and read the monument that honors Rev. Griggs and details some of the historical significance of the area. The park offers many activities throughout the year including yoga in the park, movie night, concerts, and a huge friendsgiving celebration in November. The park has plenty of walking paths and is well lit and safe. The views of downtown are spectacular and breath taking photo opportunities abound. If you haven't been to Griggs Park, you are in...
