The Dragonfly is the definition of a sophisticated atmosphere and spectacular service. Located inside Hotel ZaZa in the center of Uptown Dallas, Dragonfly exemplifies true fine dining with an eclectic menu of food and drinks. I love the artful ambiance that expands from indoors to outdoors. The restaurant is very versatile for all types of occasions, including Sunday brunch, and also a place for a night out with friends, professional meetings, and special moments with loved ones. I typically dine at the bar because the bartenders are great conversationalists AND you get a little more attention with some special treatment :). Tell them what kind of flavors and alcohol you appreciate in your drinks and I can guarantee you they will come up with something to your liking. If you’re too intoxicated to drive home, no problem. They have vacant rooms available and take last minute reservations. Valet services for your car is also available.
The cuisine is comprised of American classics. Here are my recommendations by category: Appetizers: Spinach Artichoke and Parmesan Dip served with tortilla chips AND sourdough bread. I love how I have a variety of two options of crunch and soft textures for my dip. You guys nailed it here! Salad: Texas Goat Cheese & Citrus salad served with baby arugula, citrus supremes, avocado, pistachio, goat cheese, and pomegranate vinaigrette dressing. The goat cheese is high quality that melts in your mouth from that super creamy smoothness. Sandwiches: Beyond The Border Burger. This is a plant based patty and a lover to all vegetarians with charred Anaheim chilies, munster cheese, tomatillo-cilantro aioli and cholula. It also comes with a fried egg, but I substitute that with avocado. The burger is served with your choice of volcano fries or a green salad. Fries are my kryptonite so I say skip the salad and get the volcano fries! It is a must!! Entrees: My favorite is the Superfoods Bowl that consists of quinoa, avocado, sweet potato, jalepenos, radish, sprouts and lemon tahini sauce. Low cal and super healthy! Side: An absolute must have is their Crispy Brussel Sprouts served with goat cheese ranch. That ranch is one of a kind. I pretty much go home with a ramekin full of their goat cheese ranch because it’s that good!
As you can see, all my recommendations are vegetarian however, if you’re carnivore, I will tell you they are known for their Lamb Lollipops, so definitely get what they’re famous for. I’m giving it a 4 star review because of their lack of a dessert menu. It’s pretty much nonexistent with...
Read moreIs this food and drinks good? Yes they are good. But I don't think it's so great that it was worth the price we paid for all of it. Our bill was $225 (not including tip). If I'm paying more than $150 for a nice dinner in this economy, my mind better be BLOWN, but it unfortunately wasn't. We dined here for dinner on a Saturday and we got 3 cocktails, a beer, 2 soups, 2 apps, and 2 entrees. All of it coming out to $225 (not including tip). All the cocktails are $20!: The Pretty as Peach cocktail was delicious, but it was gone in 4 sips. We got 2 of Banana Bread Old Fashioneds, and those were worth the price because they were delightful. The Hot Crab dip was absolutely delicious, it had fresh crab in it, but I'm not sure if it was worth $24. The Deviled Egg trio dissapointed me the most. It's $16 for 6 devilled eggs (3 boiled eggs in total). The menu said there was supposed to be prosciutto on top of one but to me, it just tasted and felt like bacon. The caviar-topped one was good, but I felt like it was a bit of a waste of caviar since the flavors of the devilled egg filling overpowered any of the flavors I was supposed to taste from the caviar. The Lobster bisque and French Onion were 10/10, get these if you go here. The Pasta Alla Bolognese and the Red Wine-Braised short ribs were delicious! The short ribs had a great texture and paired well with the brussel sprouts it came with. My husband got the prime beef tenderloin sliders for $23. They just give you two small sliders the size of Hawaiian rolls, and the "prime beef tenderloin" patty was the width of half a fingernail and dry. We sent it back and got it comped off our bill. Our server and the manager was great. The manager came out right after we sent the sliders back to ask what was wrong with it and if we needed anything else. She was very polite and professional. Our server was very kind and professional as well. The only reason the service is not getting a full 5 stars is because the restaurant was pretty empty and it still took them (I'm assuming the kitchen, the servers in our section were very attentitve) 45 minutes to get our entrees out from when we ordered. If everything was about $10 cheaper I would probably give this place a better review, overall I think you're better off going to a different fine dining style restaurant for better food. If the food was mind-blowing I wouldn't have mind the prices, but it...
Read moreLooked up late night dining after a productive day and wanted to treat myself. Decided on Dragonfly after perusing the online menu and sat myself at the bar at 10:02. The bartender made it clear quickly that I had the wrong menu and gave me the Limited Late night menu (6-8 items I believe). I moved over to the cocktail tables to eat. Danielle served me and was fantastic. I tried the Volcano Salt Garlic fries and Sunny Day cocktail to start with and then ordered the “One Hot Chick Wrap” and side salad. I switched to the the Tropical Tini to wrap up.
Highlight: Danielle’s service was fantastic. She also has the most insanely perfect teeth I’ve ever seen I think. The Fries were very very good as well. The restaurant has a great ambience which is to be expected in the Hotel Zaza.
Mids: The Chicken wrap was plainly plated and fine. Nothing special. Both cocktails were okay if uninspired for the price. The highlight of the cocktails were the perfectly ripe raspberries used as a garnish on the Tropical Tini and the only thing that stood out.
Lows: The side salad was what appeared to be a bagged spring mix with no dressing. Just the lettuces and a disproportionate amount of red onions piled high on top. The Late Menu was plain and seemed out of place compared to the regular dinner menu. I couldn’t help but wonder why not just have the bar open without food.
I will endeavor to arrive earlier to experience the full menu and update this review when...
