Would love it give 4 stars however, I had an awkward experience in the store. I could be overthinking but I highly doubt it. Store clerk was sitting idly at the register and was kind when they spoke. I love candles so I immediately started smelling ones that were in the store to determine which ones I wanted or buy. I wasn’t in the store for more than 15 minutes and the clerk came to “tidy up” areas that were in direct line of sight of me. As a business owner myself and knowing that Decatur train station is nearby, I understand the temptation to “watch” certain types of customer. However, I came in with ice cream in my hand and a designer tote bag. After I realized I was being profiled, I quickly selected two items, checked out, and left the store. Not new to Atlanta but recently moved to Decatur and for it to be such a liberal space, sometimes it feels like Texas. I’ve been a loyal shopper and supporter of Homegrown Decatur because I love the original artwork by local artists. Around 12:45 pm today, Halloween 2021, my family was followed by the employee on duty. It’s sad because I have an account with this store and spend about $100 per visit and I wanted my mom to experience the beauty of the store. After being followed, my mom and I put our items back on the shelf and decided to not spend our money where we’re treated like criminals simply because of our race when all of the white shoppers were shopping freely. The employee was always about two feet away everywhere we went and she should really get a reality check as well as expand her mind. I’ll never be back, I’ll just support Kandus Johnson and other artists directly. By the way, after telling her that “if you’re going to watch certain customers, try not to make it obvious” I left....

I’ve walked past this store for years and thought that the sidewalk merch was eye catching, but never actually stopped in to see what was inside.

Today I finally did and I’m grateful for it.

Very friendly and helpful ownership.

Lots of amazing and unique items.

The artwork they have is very beautiful as well. Ranging from tasteful cookie cutter home to just amazingly bizarre and funny.

I smiled and laughed so many times while appreciating the selection and I wasn’t alone. You could see and hear other shoppers doing the same.

Price wise, it goes from a few dollars to a hundred plus.

With that said, even someone who’s as price aware as me… can appreciate the prices and the quality of the merch.
