Five Below — Local services in Destin

Normally I love this place, but I just had an extremely uncomfortable experience there. The guy who was working (probably 6 ft, white guy, with ginger blonde hair, a beard and thick black glasses), proceeded to almost attack me at the register. He grabbed my items and went to start scanning. I politely reminded him that it was self check out, and he said “oh ok”. Proceeded to stand uncomfortably close to me and watch me over my shoulder scan my items. He started pressing the buttons on the screen and I told him that I had it under control. He stopped touching the screen and just stared at me. I’m genuinely surprised he didn’t take my card out of my hand. He was so close I had to cover the number pad to put my pin in. As I was leaving, a young teenage black girl walked in with her mom. I saw through the glass he was texting on his phone for a few minutes, and when he finally looked up, he made a B-line for the black teenager and started following her. NOT OKAY. This needs to be addressed with him immediately. I’m a local and I shop here frequently, but if that situation isn’t handled I doubt I’ll be shopping there again anytime soon. Self checkout is not self check out. You wait in line for 1 of at least 3 self check out registers for a person to scan items for you. A process where a person in retail can take 30 seconds can take 3 minutes.. and still beg for a “9 “ star review. Because “we are made to scan item’s” I can tell you it’s been a decade since going into a 5 below, it will be the last. The posted hours for Sundays says 10am opening. Several families, including mine, were waiting outside and had called the store multiple times trying to figure out why it wasn’t open.
