My first time taking a class here and it was a horrible experience.
The ladies were already acquainted with each other & very cohesive dancing together. They were even picking their usual spots on the floor. We were made to feel like interlopers, and many references were made about the "2pm class" - (perhaps a suggestion that we were in the wrong class.) We felt like we were interrupting their dance routine.
Well, the 2pm, (ultra beginner class) was full/waitlisted, so since we had line-danced in the past, we thought it would be OK to take this "Beginner" class. Nope, it was not a beginner class. Perhaps Malley should not name a 2nd level class "Beginner". The class names are confusing - should not have two "Beginner" named classes. Just stick with "Beginner, Intermediate, or Advanced". It was evident everyone in the "Beginner" class were return students, who had taken classes "last week" with this instructor. When they spoke of this, I was made to feel like my partner and I had missed a class. The "ultra beginner" course was full/ wait-listed, so perhaps Malley could add on more of those (true beginner) classes since there seemed to be more of a demand for them. The instructor had made a couple of comments that really drove home that we weren't too welcome there. Funny- The whole group actually looked relieved when we left. In all my years in CO, I have never felt like this at a rec center. I grew up at South Suburban, and I will stick to South Suburban for classes in the future. At least over there they are a heck of a lot more welcoming, and they don't make you feel like you don't belong. Not sure if this was age-related thing, or an Englewood thing, but the whole ambiance at Malley is unwelcoming. Keep the $44.00, and please only label "Beginner" classes for true beginners. Even better, use Levels 1,2,3,4,etc. And don't be so cliquish. Definitely won't go back to Malley enter - or to ERC....
Read moreFriday, August 9 I couldn’t get to my car fast enough in order to post my impression of the two ladies “working” the front desk between 2:00 and 2:15pm. Absolutely the grumpiest, most unwelcoming individuals I have ever encountered at the entrance of a business of any kind! One (dressed completely in black which happens to be my favorite color!) truly had the longest frown as she looked up at me, seemingly bothered by the interruption of my questions and when the second lady requested help. They were rude to the 86-year-old lady in front of me who apologized for asking them questions. A beautiful facility with a “horrible front end.” In need of customer service...
