My daughter had an encounter with a manager a month ago and I left a review because I didn’t want other people to have the same experience. Since the review we moved on and put it behind us. Unfortunately, it seems some people find joy in wallowing in self-pity from a review. Almost a month later and I find myself again warning people. Since then, I’ve personally bought and sold to Plato’s and had a positive experience, too bad that euphoria was short-lived. My daughter and her friend went in to sell and buy items, while there she is asked about the encounter with that manager and she stated she did not want to talk about it, and they have read the review. Since she felt no need in discussing the incident with someone that it did not involve directly and she had moved on from the incident shortly after she walked out of the store that day, they banned her. I called and spoke with a manager and asked why she was banned over something I wrote and that she didn’t have knowledge of until after the fact. The manager advised me she asked her to talk about it and she refused then proceeded to tell me my review was harsh and the manager in question is a nice person. Well, even the nicest people have bad days. I again asked why she was banned for doing nothing and that they could ban me, I don’t care.
Banning someone over a review they didn’t write truly shows how poorly this store runs its business. It appears these managers use bullying and intimidation to run their business. I inquired if they banned everyone that left a negative review and she became irate and defensive refusing to answer, so I gave attitude back used a couple of not-so-nice words. Was that the best way to end the call? Most definitely not, however; at the point she banned her over something I wrote AND over not wanting to rehash a situation that didn’t even involve that manager, which she’d moved on from, you’re going to get treated as rudely, and disrespectfully as you treated her. Why this other manager felt the need to discuss something that didn’t pertain to her and was in the past is senseless. Maybe she wanted to stir the pot, maybe she wanted to try to intimidate her, maybe she wanted to be nosey, or maybe she needed to feel like she had some type of control and power over her because she doesn’t that in her own life, who knows. She’s just a small, irrelevant subordinate who attempted to cause strife in a young girl’s day and all she really did was show that this Plato’s has a standard they hold their employees too – a subpar standard.
It's obvious when reading other reviews that the majority who leave a negative review get attacked by management and no apologies are given. It’s never the manager’s fault and everyone who encounters issues and/or poor attitudes are just belittled for stating their opinion and feelings on how they were treated, which is their 1st Amendment right. Operating a business where you don't care about the customer's experience or whether they make purchases must be incredible. Above all, it must be amazing to be such flawless people that you never experience a bad day, never say something and have it interpreted incorrectly, and most importantly, you never make a mistake. I now see why Plato's is included among the Fortune 100 Best Companies to Work For—wait, it's not; I made a mistake.
Ultimately, the original manager in question had ample opportunity to contact my daughter and apologize, clarifying that her remarks weren't meant to come off as impolite. She chose not to do so, which speaks volumes about her character, or lack thereof. Thankfully, other Plato's aren't managed by a group of inept people who obsess over past events, and who seem to be looking for opportunities to harass of young girls. I highly urge people to avoid Plato’s unless you want to take your kids there to witness firsthand what happens when they decide to grow up to be resentful, uneducated, lacking in common sense, and self-worth, which would then become a learning and educational...
Read morei’ve been to quite a few different plato’s closet locations. they’re all individually owned, so i like to go to multiple different locations to try and sell my clothes. this location has a super upbeat staff and one of the largest variety of shoes i’ve seen at any location. they have so many shoes that some of them are stacked on top of each other. the staff was super friendly and greeted me as i walked in and let me know to sign in to the kiosk. they told me it would be about 30 mins, which i didn’t mind, so i looked at clothes while i waited. it only took them about 10 mins even though there were a couple of people in front of me (when you sign in to the kiosk it tells you how many people are ahead of you, the staff will also let you know how many people are ahead of you so you know how long you’ll be waiting). quick and easy! went up to the register to get my remaining items and offer. as i was waiting and also while i was being helped, the staff was extremely talkative amongst themselves and it came off as a little unprofessional. as i was waiting in line, one of the girls couldn’t even hold herself together long enough to finish talking to the customer, she laughed the entire time while having a conversation with the customer and her fellow coworkers at the same time. she did apologize to the customer but it didn’t seem genuine because she kept laughing and talking to her coworkers after that as well. with my experience as a manager and even just as a team member, when interacting with customers i always made sure they were put first to make sure they had the best experience to keep them coming back. at this location it seems like it’s run by teenagers who lack professionalism. they were all friendly as was i in return, just seems like a place run by high schoolers with no supervision. the store was pretty clean and they had a wide variety of clothing, but i probably won’t be returning to this location specifically for the lack of professionalism. also, as i got in my car to look through what they bought, everything was just shoved in my bin instead of nicely folded like how i brought it in. but i have that experience at every plato’s closet i go to so i wasn’t too surprised. what did confuse me was they misplaced one of my shoes. they only gave me back the right one and i had to go back in for the other. when i went back in, it was laying on the ground behind the counter. easily could’ve fallen out i suppose, but i’ve never experienced this kind of carelessness and lack of professionalism at any other location. my experience wasn’t horrible, and like i said the staff were friendly, but i’ve definitely experienced better at other locations. this was my first and last time selling and...
Read moreI've never had a problem with this platos before until the other day. This location always has the cutest stuff and I always leave with at least 3/4 items of clothing. Only unfortunately the other day I went in to sell some old clothes since I moved and wanted to downsize. I had a medium suitcase full of shirts/shoes/scarves/pants and one small bag of shirts that didn't fit. After waiting for almost 2 hours I got a text saying they were ready for me to come in. Cool awesome I know I've been able to get at least about 20$ worth for the clothes since 80% have never been worn(typical woman I know lol) However when I showed up the African American teenager with glasses proceeded to tell me they couldn't take anything due to "normal wear and tear" The way she said it and acted was almost like it was off a script for employees not wanting to do the extra work regardless of how many customers selling clothes they had. Now in my head I was like huh, that's strange there's new clothes and shoes never even worn once in that suitcase. I've worked retail for 6 years now and heads up kids, even if you don't want to, it's your job!! Doesn't matter how busy it is that's life.
Sad and slightly irritated I half heartedly thanked the people there and put the suitcase and bag back in my car. When I got home I opened the suitcase to find they hadn't even touched it or gone through a single item. Nothing had been moved and was exactly the same way it was before.
So I wasted 10$ worth of gas and 2 hours waiting for absolutely nothing. I saw the mixed reviews and still decided to give it a try. I should have heeded the warnings about that decision. Taking them to a completely different area with a platos to try again. Shame on this location for...
