Just reading these reviews, you can see how they really can't accurately rate this place. You can come to this conclusion before going to the works. I see one giving three stars apparently because the works was closed when it should have been open. Now, I doubt they closed because they wanted to. And if they did, isnt that the Humboldt way? So you can't take these reviews without some salt. Pink Himalayan salt even. Sea salt; the most grainy of salts.
On to my review. I have spent hundreds at the works on vinyl and I will spend hundreds more. I like the place, I like the chill atmosphere, and I feel welcomed and appreciated. They have an okay selection on vinyl. The jazz section is a gem and no one buys them but me. I would like a bigger selection still, however. That goes for all generes. I'd like a bigger new vinyl selection as well. This place, notwithstanding, gets 5 stars because these ratings mean nothing and i have no legitimate reason to give less. In my opinion, all places deserve 5 stars unless there is good reason. Id give the peoples records the same amount, yet I like their selection more overall. The works is a local business run by a local man with a life and family to support. I've gone there and it's been closed for some reason. I've gone and I didnt like what I found and left. I came back. Five stars for a place deserving it. Now...
Read moreThis is a good record store. I come here 1-2 times a week and have had very good luck finding gems almost every time (like jaw dropping, gasping in shock type good finds). The owner is very nice, helpful and loves sharing new music based on what I like. I have only one criticism: the selection is not as enormous as an Amoeba Records' store.. This is Eureka, CA. A relatively small town in Humboldt! I give them 5-stars because these guys are doing one hell of a job working with what's available in a small town. Location is REALLY good: right around the corner from Mantova's 2nd St. Music Store (who are also super helpful, family run, always trying to accommodate to my requests). Stays chill on ARTS ALIVE night

Read moreI've been coming to the Works since I was 13 and first developed a love for Led Zeppelin and vinyl records. I don't listen to much classic rock anymore, but that's alright, Bandon always has some cool stuff from almost every genre available, on CD, cassette, and vinyl. The shop might not be as big as it used to be, but that just means they cut down on the filler, leaving the gems for your listening pleasure. Even when I was a broke teenager, I always managed to scrounge up a few bucks to buy some tapes or a CD at the Works. Bandon is an awesome guy with an awesome taste, and there's always something amazing to be found...
