It doesn’t matter about how much you donate when you literally can donate items to the store and they throw them away and their dumpster and then trespass people from getting the items out of their dumpster. I have video proof! Pictures! People donate items every day, thinking that they’re going to help people in need and these people are so greedy that they would rather throw it away then market down so somebody could actually buy it or actually donate it to someone in need.
I actually just got off the phone with Brandon. He says he’s the head of Wheeler Mission of Indiana. He stated that no one is allowed to take anything from their dumpsters and also said they do not throw away customers donations. I tested them and donated some Christmas stuff they threw it away immediately brand new Christmas items! Don’t you think someone in need around Christmas time would be happy to have a brand new Christmas tree ornaments, and decorations?
Not to mention the tons of books they throw away each week. It was enough to fill up half of my car and donate to our local elementary over 200 bucks in one night just childrens books! They throw away kitchen goods, and housewares that someone could use to furnish their house, furniture, clothes, shoes, toys… Why not mark the items down to the price it costs to feed someone? Why not donate it? Who are you helping by sending mass amounts of donations to the landfill to add to our waste crisis? Instead of selling an item for $2.08 which is the amount it cost to care for one struggling individual they would rather throw an item out and pay to send it off.. to sit and waste away.
Does this make sense to anyone?
These people are just as corrupt as Goodwill, if not worse! I went into a store, hoping to buy some things for my children as I’m a mom of 4 and all their used items were no joking the same price as brand new items in Store, and sometimes marked higher than the tags on them! I was going to buy a pair of little girls shoes picked them up and then noticed they were $14 used..put them down. I looked them up online and I could buy them at my local Walmart for $12.99 brand new!
On top of all that they pay private security to patrol their dumpsters at night. I looked at the security company and they get paid a minimum of $35 an hour. Can you do the mass for eight hours seven days a week… think about how many people could be fed and sheltered with that alone. It’s ridiculous and I will my it MY MISSION to spread awareness of your corrupt “Non-For Profit”
P.S. Thank you for pushing me to make this public when you decided to hang up on me for making these points over...
Read moreI'm only giving this place 1 star because I have to. This place deserves 0 stars. Prices are RIDICULOUS, and they have unethical practices. A few weeks ago, I went in to look at their boutique shoes and found a pair of Nikes I liked. They were priced at $119 (which is completely outrageous for used and DONATED shoes) to $29.99. I didn't know about the price discounts based on the dates they set on the tag, but the cashier explained it to me. He says, "They won't be $29.99 until March 5th." So I told him no thank you for today, but I'll come back on the 5th. I go in today, the 5th, and those same shoes are still there, but now the date for them to be $29.99 has been changed to April 2nd. I live 30 minutes from the store, so I wasted an hour of my time and gas. They say they are a Christ centered organization and, as a Christian, that makes me seriously saddened. I don't think Jesus wants us ripping people off and lying about prices in order to "help the homeless." They would help the homeless a lot more if they would sell the completely free items they get at reasonable prices. I don't intend to ever do business with them ever again, and if you care about truly helping the homeless, you shouldn't either. There are plenty of organizations that aren't unethical and truly do help those less fortunate without scheming to do it. Also, side note, if you are looking for name brand shoes and clothing, I recommend going to Platos closet 3 doors down from this store. Their prices are way better, and their stuff isn't even donated, so they actually help the people who are looking to get rid of...
Read moreI strongly believr in charity as a Christian and citizen so I very much want to support this secondhand store. Unfortunately, many items are often ridiculously overpriced. Broken items, items missing pieces, old and ill-used items are often tagged far over their original price, laughably so. When I see an original sticker price of $20 for a beat up lamp and the store is asking $50 its a bit beyond the pale. Moreover, some of the staff can be outright hostile about prices, especially one of the managers. Whoever is doing the pricing on this stuff is either super rich and has no idea what things cost in the real world or imagines that rich housewives are coming in with $15.99 for a used, scratched up, purple coffee mug with a giant B embossed on it missing its top even though that same mug is available at Walmart down the road brand new for $8.99. Most of the customers are lower income, not rich donors. Thats why they are shopping in a secondhand store. Raising money for a charity is super important but when you overcharge like this in a secondhand store youre only fleecing other lower income folks. I hope they do better because its a good charity. In these times its just hard to justify 150 to 200% pricing on donated stuff when you still need a coffee mug and have bills to pay and a skyrocketing grocery bill even if its...
