We've ridden for family business and pleasure, and it has been a mixed bag overall. For the most part, the staff (especially on board the train) have been kind and helpful. The trick is to do your homework, and find out everything you can before you get to the station. Parking is almost always a nightmare around the station in downtown FW, which is soooo weird, you would think they would have plenty of designated parking, but no, so if possible have a friend drive you there and drop you off. Especially if you have suitcases! Even the ones with wheels suffer when you're running for your train. Pre-purchase all possible tickets, pre-plan all possible transportation issues, pre-book hotels, etc. Typical travel headaches and not that any of that is helped by Amtrak, but hey, at least for the most part Amtrak isn't getting in the way, and the T(RE) folks aren't actually trying to piss you off. Just remember that, and unpack your patience along the way. Folks, we've gotta have transit, and the sooner we all begin to embrace it and ride it the sooner the fees will be paying for more and better. Europe absolutely puts us to shame in this area. It is easily the one big problem for anyone visiting this country that they cannot easily hop a train (or bus, or light rail, or subway) and get where they need to be. Don't be afraid, just be sensible, do your homework, and all will be well...
Read moreThis was my daughter who is 5 years of age and I first time riding the train so it was an exciting experience. So I'm going to give you the pros and cons in my opinion. The pros were that the train arrived on time, it was clean for the most part, I ordered a signature steak and it was delicious, wasn't too noisy, and the staff were friendly when I had any questions, lots of leg room, and loved the fact I could move around freely, and the ac temperature was just right for me and the Wifi was great except is some locations I couldnt get service but it didnt last for long, and the tickets were pretty reasonable. The cons were the bathroom was kind of nasty, although the steak was delicious it was smaller than I expected, the food prices were kind of pricey, and if you get a pizza from the cafe part expect to get a microwaved pizza. So word of advice: bring a pillow and small blanket, bring lots of snacks or your own food aboard, something to keep you entertained, your phone charger, keep your personal belongings with you at all times and sit/lay back and...
Read moreToday June 4 my young daughter was supposed to leave from de Amtrak Fort Worth Central Station at 2:32Pm. This is our first time traveling in Amtrak and the last one. The train was delayed and the phone notification from the app were coming very late. We asked for an update to the employees on the window of the Amtrak , they looked very bordered by our question and they weren't able to give us an explanation or at least an expected time for the train to leave. I asked twice in 5 hours of waiting if they knew the time of the new time departure and the only answer was a rude NO. They finally let the poor people aboard the train and by now, I'm still waiting the text from my daughter letting me know that they finally are in their way to San Antonio. To the employees of Amtrak: if you don't like your job, what are you guys doing working there? P.S Is 6:40 pm and the train has not been departure. Worst service and...
