The venue is situated in a pedestrian only portion of the stockyards. That is the only good thing that I have to state about Tannahill's Tavern and Music Hall. Wanding for weapons wasn't a big deal, I'm used to this, however wanding over my wallet that didn't set off the wand and still having to remove my wallet was a bit odd. I asked for a sparkling water, a slightly over-weight male bartender with short brown hair that took my drink order couldn't or wouldn't answer the simple question "do you have sparkling water?". I never got an answer. Instead, he procured a small bottle, he showed it to me stating that it was mineral water (not all mineral water is sparkling). From that distance (easily 8 ft), I couldn't make out the print only the colors on the small bottle. I asked if he could gun some soda water into a glass with ice then lemon and/or lime, as I've done many times. He said that he didn't have a bartender's soda gun. I pointed to the bottle and said that was fine on the rocks with lemon and/or lime. He poured the water, then he placed a ramekin filled with prepared limes for me to grab a wedge in the age of covid. My wife returned to the bar several times later to be mischarged for drinks. He also re-used a plastic cup, I was ok with this, even though the owner(s) clearly are uninformed or simply don't care about single use plastics, the environment, etc. Other than that, we had a problem with the fact that he utilized a "used" plastic cup (I was drinking from it) as an ice scoop for the next drink, again, in the age of covid. My wife also noted the bartender's complete failure attempting "tricks" when pouring drinks. He was getting weird with liquor bottles and nearly broke one near the ice bin (!). Enough with the incompetent bar staff. We were there for a rock show. Warren Hayne's project of decades apart from the Allman Brothers, Government Mule, was playing that evening. What was the opening music to bring them on stage? A discombobulated and fragmented mix of old western tunes from what I suppose were equally dated western television shows, best that I can tell, just enough to irritate hippy fans; five to ten second clips edited together. Puzzling at best. Warren and company seemed to be "feeling it" as well, or so it appeared from my location. To cap off this evening which was my wife's birthday, I might add, we were asked to leave by a staff member who said that my wife was seen vaping an e-cigarette as the encore(s?) started. My wife insisted that she was not vaping, and, even if she was, she does NOT plume the smoke, she inhales the nicotine free smoke completely with no exhale in such circumstances, as she stated to a staffer. We both walked into the venue with electronic smoking devices, we removed them from pocket going through security, security had eyes on them as we entered, and nothing was said about vaping being forbidden. We saw no posted signs, nor were we told of a smoking/vaping friendly area as many other venues have. The women's room also does not have a feminine product waste container as many other establishments will have. Trombone Shorty is playing the venue soon, and I'll be damned if we'll return even though we are avid fans of the New Orleans funk scene, "Shorty" included. When patrons are treated in this manner, it's clear that not much thought was put into the venue's management and...
Read moreMy experience last night on average was disappointing. If one thing had been less than stellar it could have been overlooked, but it turned into one thing after another.
We had reservations for 7:30, when the reservation was made we were asked if there was anything special they needed to know. We added that we were attending the concert that night at 9. (In case we needed to finish in a timely manner). Half the party arrived at 7:15ish. We let the hostess know we were there just waiting for the rest of our party. We were invited to wait in the bar area. At 7:30 we let the hostess know our entire party arrived… On time. The hostess then stated “there was a MISCOMMUNICATION , and they are just waiting for a lingering table to leave. As soon as the table gets up they will call us”.
We headed back to the bar area and were lucky enough to get a table. After about 15 minutes we got a menu and ordered food from the bar because we were concerned about getting to the concert on time. Which leads to the next disappointment…the food.
Children’s Mac and cheese tasted heavily of onion. (Onions were not stated on the menu). Cold fries. Meh bologna sandwich and chips. Just not the level of food we expected. Shout out to our bar waitress…she was the best part of the night. At 8:17….a full hour after our first contact with the hostess…we were notified our table would be ready in the next 10 minutes. Sigh…I could see others being seated before us from our seats at the bar. We ordered, ate, paid before the reserved table was finally ready.
Inside the concert hall was shoulder to shoulder. Way too many people. It was a sold out show, but seriously too many people jammed in that venue. Occupancy should be less. No room to move. (Tip: order your tickets early and pay more for seating on the second level. If not you will be seated in the far back or standing room only packed in like sardines.)
My drink from inside the concert hall was awful. Tasted like a heavy pour of vodka mixed with tap water. Undrinkable.
Now I am not an unreasonable person. If just the drink was bad I would let it go because those bartenders were doing an excellent job serving an enormous crowd. My fault for ordering a mixed drink instead of just grabbing a beer. Venue too crowded? Ok…live and learn…next time order early and get seats. Reservation mix up but food was stellar? Ok I could let it go. But damn Tannahill’s. It was just one thing after another. This was my 3rd visit with 2/3 being disappointing. I may return to see a concert if I can get seats on the second level, but I will never return to...
Read moreVery disappointing experience here and it's annoying to see the responses to bad reviews saying "thanks for joining us!" and taking no ownership of their issues. We had a large party for dinner and our poor waitress was absolutely clueless. I ordered a canned drink and after 20 minutes of waiting asked our waitress if she had my drink yet. She rudely replied "I didn't know you ordered a drink" to which I responded "you just wrote down what I wanted to drink 20 minutes ago..." She then came back after another 10 minutes and rudely said "we don't have the flavor you are wanting." Really? It took you 30 minutes to figure that out? It then took another 10 minutes to bring me my CANNED drink. She didn't even have to make a drink. She had no idea how to split our checks even though we told her from the very beginning who was with who. It took us another 30 minutes just to pay our bill which caused us to be late to the concert. I felt bad for her that she obviously hadn't been properly trained on how to do her job.
We stood in line, in the cold, for easily 20 minutes while they had ONE person checking ID's and bags. This lady was absolutely awful and had the worst attitude from the start. She called my sister a liar for needing her purse with her Diabetic supplies in it. We had to spend another 30 minutes talking to a box office girl who was very unhelpful and rude as well. Every other employee just stood around and said "whatever she says goes" which is hilarious because she was incredibly rude - funny that that's who you guys want to be the face of your venue. My sister literally had to rip her diabetic pump out of her bra in order to prove that she was actually diabetic.
My one positive comment is for Anthony: he was absolutely the only person we encountered in that venue who was kind, level-headed, and showed compassion for our situation. Thank you, Anthony!
The concert was great and the bars inside the venue were fine. You guys have so many other things to fix here, though, including training your employees to be kind humans. Really just a sad excuse for an establishment that has no idea what they're doing and apparently only cares about making money. Won't...
