Great selection of Cat and Dog food, but thats where the variety ends. Treats and toys are very overpriced compared to other animal/feed stores, and there is no variety in terms of bedding, accessories, or training supplies (one or two different brands). The enclosures for the small animals, including the reptiles and fish, are atrocious and should be considered animal cruelty. As a herpetologist, it disgusts me that they have been allowed to keep and sell animals in those conditions. The morphs of their reptiles are labeled incorrectly and way overpriced. I have called and asked the manager how they supply their herptiles (reptiles/amphibians) and they refuse to answer, say they don't know, or simply hang-up the phone once asked. The rodents are also in cruel and cramped conditions with dirty food and water due to there being too many animals in one enclosure. The informative booklets also contain incorrect husbandry and species information that will leave you with a sick or unhappy pet if you decide to read and listen to them. Overall, its a decent store to buy cat and dog supplies, but if you are looking for small animals or even dog treats I would check with an animal/feed store, an online rescue, or online breeder. Last night my brother went in to purchase a blue iguana that he had researched and prepped for over 6 months in advance, When in the store he was not offered assistance. He asked an employee for assistance and that he wanted to purchase the iguana. The lady at that time completely ignored his request making excuses to him why he should not make the purchase , after telling the employee that he was going to bye the iguana the employee then started grilling him on his purchase, then employee refused to serve my brother stating that now she couldn't assist because it is now because it was to far from the register. Then he asked another employee near by and that employee refused to assist stating that she was to busy hanging up dog sweaters, so he asked another employee that was told by the first employee to bring him educational material on the iguana to assist him, the third male employee then stated that he also could not assist because he was going on break!!! My brother left the store frustrated and will make his purchase now in Grand Junction. This store will never have another dime of my family's business! I strongly encourage others to be cautions when attempting to use the store obviously the store doesn't sell pets, they keep pets for their employees. I was denied fish and was asked for an ID for a guppy. Keep in mind, you can tell I am of legal age. I was with a friend and the lady helping us was very nice to her and let her by frogs but wouldn’t let me get a fish? my friend who is younger than me purchased several gerbils and was not asked for an id. i find that extremely irresponsible of the employees, I was trying to buy one of the easiest fish to take care of and I was ID’ed, they straight up just gave my friend gerbils with no id and didn’t asked him if he knew how to care for them or anything like that (he does know how to care for them and was overly prepared for them) but i couldn’t get 2 guppies because an almost 5 gallon tank wasn’t big enough for them? The lady also said that if we wanted the fish with the frogs then we should get a goldfish….we did our research and if we put a goldfish in a tank with the frogs, the goldfish would eat them…so petco your employees are idiots and I feel extremely disrespected. There was an employee who checked us out and she was super nice to both of us and she knew more about the fish and frogs than the other girl did.
