My inadvertent discovery of this establishment unfolded in the serendipitous manner of happenstance, as I ambled over from the Courtyard Marriott, guided by an incipient appetite and the quest for a culinary haven. The exterior of the locale hinted at its popularity, and my intuition was affirmed upon entry, where a bustling and animated scene revealed itself. The surging crowd bespoke a culinary gem, an inference that tantalized my gustatory anticipation.
Eager to partake in the offerings of this gastronomic haven, I was, unfortunately, confronted with a logistical conundrum—a dearth of available tables, necessitating an unexpected pivot towards the prospect of a takeout repast. Undeterred by the temporal inconvenience, I embarked upon a culinary journey that included the kaleidoscopic ensemble of a green curry, a combat roll, a happy roll, and Thai vegetable spring rolls.
The sushi rolls, as harbingers of culinary craftsmanship, epitomized meticulous preparation. Each roll, a testament to the artisanal prowess at play, exhibited a symphony of flavors, expertly portioned and marked by an unparalleled freshness that resonated with each delectable bite. It was an orchestration of culinary excellence that left an indelible impression.
Alas, the culinary symphony encountered a discordant note with the green curry, a dish that promised an amalgamation of flavors but, regrettably, fell short of expectations. The scant offering of two diminutive chicken strips, meager in comparison to a bounteous array of potatoes and assorted vegetables, compromised the intended balance. While the takeout container overflowed with its contents, the disproportionate scarcity of chicken was a palpable disappointment. The commendable spiciness of the sauce, although a redeeming quality, could not salvage the dish from the pervading mildness of the green curry flavor, eclipsed by an overpowering presence of vegetables.
Turning my discerning attention to the rolls, I found them to be competent yet unremarkable, adhering to a standard that did not transcend the realm of the ordinary.
In summation, this establishment unfolds as a dichotomy, with sushi rolls that ascend to the pinnacle of culinary finesse, while the Thai offerings meander through the realms of mediocrity. A culinary odyssey that traverses highs and lows, encapsulating the multifaceted nature of gastronomic...
Read moreWhat can I say... I was super excited to get to try the 880 people leave a average 4.4 stars reviews chinese restaurant in a tourist area, but I was got so many disappointments from so many different aspects. You might think I have too high expectations but I don't, I just need to get what's the menus will/can offer to me. 1st is about the seating next to kitchen and I can smell that oily smell (not fresh) from the kitchen, the dining area is humid and feel not clean bc the cap of soy sauce is having dust around it. 2nd I ordered kid menus for my son a $3.50 orange juice and a $8 chicken Taranaki low mein with no chicken??? And I felt like they just cooked the noodle and just pour sauce on it for him, I didn't see a side of stirring on wok. This restaurant kid menus is so over the sky, they charge drink $3.50+ food $8+ dessert $3.50, basically really over price with what they can offer to kid and parents the one will have to pay for not decent food to feed our kid. (And on the main menus Low Mein with protein of your choice only cost $12.50 I meant, yes we are traveling should not nickel and cent while we travel but I just can't understand how pricey this can be) 3rd My husband ordered a green curry with huge disappointment 😞 with those veggies not supposed to be in green curry😑 and missing so many needed ingredients in this curry dish which the main well known on curry dish is lemongrass ( not even mentioned other ingredients). And the dish have no flavor of any source of a curry dish need to have, it just a dish throw some COCONUT MILK and stir what ever they have a their kitchen to called a green curry dish for their customer. 4th My Volcano Shimp is just sweet and sour sauce not even tasted any spicy in my dish, I have to ask for chilli pepper on a side. The only thing that they well cooked their Jasmine rice and food came out fast after ordered. Their menus try to cover so many different countries's food like Sushi, Thai food and Chinese, to me their Chinese not tastes like Chinese food, their Thai food not tastes like Chinese food, will it be nice to offer what you advertise to tourist instead of "trick" them with a huge menu, and get disappointed after dine in, or focus on a certain good and be good at it. This is my thoughts after I visited this restaurant, choose your...
Read moreTLDR: Decent food, great service.
We (party of 2) walked in around 5:30pm on a Sunday night. The restaurant was about half full. We were quickly greeted by the host, seated, and brought menus, water, and a bowl of cold edamame.
It’s worth mentioning that this was our second time at Zheng, and after a satisfying first time, we felt it was worth a revisit 6 months later (just so happened to be visiting the area both times).
We ordered the Dragon Wings as an appetizer and the Volcano Shrimp (w/ Brown Rice) and Massaman Curry Beef (w/ Jasmine Rice) for our entrees. Both the curry and wings were reorders; only the Volcano Shrimp was a new dish for us.
The wings came served on a bed of leafy greens and topped with chopped onions, green pepper, basil, and red chili peppers. It was served with wasabi ranch. The wings were tender and slightly crispy on the outside, though they lacked seasoning. The wasabi ranch more than made up for it. That stuff is seriously addicting. The Volcano Shrimp was tender and again slightly crispy on the outside due to its tempura battered nature. The sauce was sweet with a bit of heat, but lacked anything else. I would’ve liked some sort of sour, flavorful element, like a lemon or orange flavor. The curry came with a mixed variety of vegetables and the flank steak was tender. Unfortunately, the curry itself lacked flavor and the depth/richness I’d look for in a Thai curry. It was like I knew something was missing but couldn’t pinpoint exactly what.
Our server was Sonia; she was attentive, warm, very friendly, and in good spirits. The host was also very attentive and hustled around serving up waters.
Unfortunately, I’d say the experience was disappointing and I likely won’t be returning. I had high hopes after the first visit but was ultimately let down. It is an overall decent spot for Asian cuisine, though. Maybe I was being over-comparative. Come try...
