Saw a production today of Misery. The cast and set design were INCREDIBLE. Amazing production all around. The deduction of stars stems from an unfortunate encounter I had with an usher. Before the play one of the staff announced that to avoid disruption that re-ushering is at the discretion of the usher if you are to leave the auditorium. This is 100% reasonable and pretty standard for most theaters to reseat you in between acts. However, even if you have reserved seats they will not allow you to return to your seats if you exit. I wish this had been mentioned in detail during the announcements. I thought this policy was only in regards to when we could reenter, not that we weren’t allowed to return to our seats. If the auditorium had been full, I would not have been able to return 30 minutes into an hour and 45 minute production (with no intermission). I understand the need for policies like this but they should be explained in detail prior to the start of the show as it significantly detracted from my experience. Additionally, this policy makes it difficult for people with chronic conditions that require frequent breaks. When I mentioned this to the usher Austin, he rolled his eyes and asserted that I must not have been listening to the introductions. I did listen but the instructions were vague and unclear. I do not want to detract/distract from anyone else’s experience but this was a let down from a customer service standpoint. I love to support local arts programs and will absolutely be back, but I think something should be included in introductions specifically that you may have to forfeit your seat if you have to exit the auditorium during the performance for a...
Read moreThis was our first visit to the Warehouse, where we caught ASSASSINS. This intimate theater affords good seats for all attendees.
For this show, a thrust stage was used. I'm not sure if that is the case for all shows, but I've always appreciated this kind of staging as it creates a more intimate feeling with the actors.
The lobby is nicely appointed, and their refreshment stand is conveniently located to allow folks to grab a snack or beverage easily.
Even though it is a small theater, we never felt cramped.
The actors were all very good, professional players. Nice to have an Equity theater of this size in Greenville.
Their season appears to have more than a few daring, controversial shows in their past and upcoming seasons.
Parking is typical for downtown/westside. Some walking may be in order, so plan accordingly.
Entire staff was friendly and helpful.
This is a theater worth attending and supporting.

Read moreThe play is not about the character Othello, it's all about Iago, and this actor gets it. It's a shame Emilia doesn't get to deliver her speech because that's key to understanding her, and the actress is good. (That's the director's choice to compress two scenes and hasten the denoument.) Two main actors are still "on book" and it mars the production, so I'll definitely again later in the run to see if Othello develops a little more subtlety and gravitas. Desdemona' s costume doesn't reflect the elegance and innocence needed to make the role believable. There is so much promise in this production. It's ...
