The archery and firearm staff are incredibly knowledgeable, incredibly patient and exemplify great customer service, that alone would easily make this a five star store. Unfortunately, the checkout staff consistently show awful customer service. They are consistently condescending, ignore customers, or outright walk away. Just today, I walked in and had another terrible experience with the cashiers. I walk up to the counter, one of them makes eye contact with me as I put my items down to purchase, and without a word walks away. Feeling awkward, I take a step back expecting the other cashier to jump in and check me out, but she just stands there having a conversation with her other coworker. When she finally notices I'm standing there, she takes a bite from her food and does not say a word. If it's not something like this, it's something like an employee treating me like I'm an idiot because I asked what kind of bags they have for traveling. Gene Taylor's is well-known in the Gunnison valley for having great prices on ski clothes, winter sports gear, and ski equipment rentals. If you're willing to make the trip to Gunny instead of paying a premium on the mountain, your wallet will thank you. Case in point, when I last visited a month ago, their daily rates for cross-country classic ski rentals were 60% less than in Crested Butte. Another great thing is that single day ski rentals can be returned until 10am the following day, so you can spend your whole day out skiing without feeling like you need to rush your rentals back before closing time. I've rented and purchased ski equipment here for 8 years now, and on my last visit, they were as kind and helpful as always-- they even swapped out my skis at the register when I noticed they were skin skis (I prefer scales). BEST ski shop in all of Snowmass/aspen!!! I was in a rush to get my ski bindings mounted (coming all the way from NYC and called a thousand shops in the area, only to find that nobody does same-day except…enter Gene Taylor!! PJ is SO knowledgeable and kind did a really great and FAST job with my bindings and the store itself is very comprehensive, with all the ski equipment you could need!! Everyone here is so helpful and friendly and while I was waiting for my bindings they patiently explained all the different equipment—from socks to gloves. I was able to get everything I need in one place; what a godsend. Gonna come back after a few days of skiing to get them waxed on their fancy machine!! THANK YOU PJ AND TEAM !!!
