If I could give a lower score I would. I went to the store today after YEARS between shifts to kill time and browse new clothes for my kids. An associate followed me with a camera from the MOMENT I walked in the store. I browsed as I processed what was happening. I then left because it made me uncomfortable and angry. I then decided that something NEEDED to be said to managers. So I went in to speak to the manager. Told her, I'm a father of 2 with a brand new car in the parking lot, a loan on our other vehicle for 11k, and live in a 460k home locally. Both myself and my wife work fulltime. That they were profiling me because I was in street clothes (for working), which shows they don't know the "wealthy" demographic they CLEARLY market towards. Wealthy people stay wealthy by living meek lifestyles on a day to day to afford the rest of their lifestyle. The woman was also a person of color (not that I care, but I was required to identify her). I told her if I'd have done it to her in a Dillards, not only would it be inappropriate, it'd be racist, and it would make the news. I also explained that I was browsing and discussing prices and quality of the product with my wife because we are planning to buy our kids new wardrobes, but not now. I told her if police officers profiling was immoral, it's immoral for a sales associate to HOLD a camera in my face as I browse and that one day she's going to do it to the wrong person and get hurt or pressed and if they were condoning THEIR employees to play vigilante, then they do not have theirs or their customer's best interest at heart. I even pointed out the cameras and explained that it was pretty obvious they had a security member monitoring the footage so to have associates doing THEIR job was ridiculous. Had I started walking around with product and she was discreet, I wouldn't have said anything because she's at least not making it obvious while protecting their inventory, but the fact was I just browsed. Didn't take anything off the rack, so her holding the phone higher than her head to obviously make me aware that I'm being recorded, was her attempt to pressure me into leaving OR get a reaction out of me. The manager than stated that it wasn't policy and they don't allow employees to do that. I then explained that she did it so obvious and blatant that she would HAVE to be aware that it's NOT a problem and she is allowed to. And if she wasn't allowed to I'd hope they would take disciplinary action toward her because I personally would NEVER disrespect ANYONE to that extreme and it honestly upset me and made ME feel like something is wrong with ME because I can't "afford" to pass through unnoticed. It was EXTREMELY offensive and disheartening to be a victim to this standard when the corporation OBVIOUSLY has the money to train their employees on how to handle these situations in a respectful and discreet manner. The manager seemed unconcerned and only attempting to make me feel "heard" and to get me out of the store. If theft is THAT much of an issue in that location, then the proper actions should be taken to address the issue while creating an environment that allows those wrongly judged, by their associates, PERSONAL opinion to shop freely and not harassed by uninformed and biased employees. Very disappointed in Dillard's. Myself and family have been supporters of their business for GENERATIONS. My hope is that their corporate office sees this review and addresses this disturbing practice at this location. I've shopped at least a dozen other outlets and NEVER experienced this type of interaction with ANY of...
Read moreThis place is not handicap friendly. I arrived to view shoes for a future event, but unfortunately am currently on crutches. To start, the doors do not have any automatic features and are quite heavy on top of being manual. As I walked in and out, not a single person offered to assist me as I swung my crutch into the door jam to catch it. I looked at shoes for 20 minutes without being approached, spoken to or asked if I needed assistance regardless of the fact that I was looking around for help. I guess they figured I did not need assistance in purchasing shoes. This will be my last time going to this location as the last time I arrived 20 minutes before closing to return ONE item. They huffed as I walked in, complained while doing my return from the day before, and locked the doors behind me 15 minutes...
Read moreIt could be bigger and offer a better selection, (my reason for only 4 stars) but I guess we should just be grateful for even having a major department store in Hammond. With that said, if you want exceptional, personalized service, this is the place to go for you clothes shopping needs. Their salespeople are eager to assist you and will help you put together your complete outfit. When they ask if you need any help, be specific about what you're looking for and the occasion - they will not stop until they find it! They will help you find multiple items and place them all in the dressing room for you. Seriously, this is boutique style service in a department store chain. Never...
