I think the Biki bikeshare is the best thing to happen to Honolulu since I've lived here (5 years). First the city has done a good job working with Biki and getting much needed bike lanes on the roads, making the city more accessible and safer to bicyclists. Second Biki is a great option for getting around town. Honolulu is mostly flat and small so it is very easy to bicycle wherever you want. I have been a bicycle commuter for over two years. It cuts down on traffic and saves the environment, plus it's healthy for your body to move. I used to be worried about where to lock up my bike in town because Honolulu is know for bicycle theft. Biki solves that problem because I just dock in a station and it's no longer my worry. Also the bikes are well made. No, it is not like my personal road bike, it's a breach cruiser style and a bit heavier, but I don't mind it. It allows me to wear more of a range of outfits (I've Bikied in a dress and a skirt) and I get a better workout (my thighs have never looked so good!). There are stations everywhere! And I can go to dinner with my husbands and we do t have to pay outrageous parking fees. The benefits go on and on. Lastly it is so affordable - $15 a month for unlimited rides! That's is $180 a year and that is cheaper than the yearly maintenance on my road bike. Plus if there is a problem with your Biki, just dock it press the repair needed button and grab a new bike...
Read moreThis is my first ever (and hopefully last) review that I’ve made. Terrible quality of bikes (50/50 chance of finding one that actually works well and doesn’t feel like you’re dragging 500 pounds behind you). Countless times where it took me forever to gain access codes via the app. Docking stations will read as full even though there are available slots. This means that a lot of times you will have to find another dock and park your bike even further from your destination. This, on top docking stations in busy areas filling up fast, kind of defeats the whole purpose of renting a bike since you’ll be doing a lot of walking anyways. Customer service is hard to get in touch with (Only 2 customer service reps total working) and is usually too late by the time they do get back in touch. For those who need a way to commute short distances daily, save your money and invest in an electric scooter or electric bike like I did, and save yourself the headache. Heck invest in your own bicycle. Anything is better than attempting to use biki on...
Read moreConvenient bikes and have enjoyed them for 3 years, however the biki station credit card machine doesn’t let you “renew” a $30 plan on the same card, so if you’re low on minutes, it will charge you $4.50 for the extra time you went over. Requires you to purchase a new plan (which is a better deal) on a DIFFERENT card. The machines are slow at reading cards and you’ll need to try multiple times (you’ll need to check your credit card account because it will charge your card multiple times and may have to check in a few days again to make sure the duplicate charges don’t stay). Call center is more responsive now than it used to be.
Update: I’ve been trying to “sign in” on the App as suggested, the only option I get is “forgot password” after I enter my email address—- there is no way to create a new account and password on the Biki app. Only “Login” and a button for “forgot password”. My iPhone is updated and I’ve downloaded the latest version of the Biki app and still no luck. Frustrating to even...
