Houston used to have a wonderful downtown post office. The property was prime downtown property and they sold it. Now Houston, the fourth largest city in the US with a vibrant downtown business and residential community, has NO downtown post office. I live downtown; I could walk or bike to the old post office, Now I have to get a car (the "new" downtown post office isn't even on Light Rail) and drive to midtown, to the Hadley post office, which has been designated as the new downtown post office. It was slightly enlarged but only has room for three stations. I was just there on a regular Saturday. The line was out the door and remained so. The wait was about 30 minutes. The clerks were friendly and efficient...no problems there. But the facility is inadequate for Houston and an embarrassment. Although newly renovated, the displays were totally in disarray...with collapsing shelves, shelves installed upside down, torn edges, tape marks and such like. Most of the box, card, tape and other displays appeared not to have been straightened or restocked since they opened two years ago. Many of the cards were on the floor and envelopes and cards were all over the display in total disarray...again...no one has straightened or restocked in ages. The passport sign is covered by some display that is largely empty. The counters and doors were visibly dirty with food and fingerprints, and the self-service kiosk hasn't worked for ages. In addition, paint is pulled off the wall in many places where tape had earlier been and has not. Even repaired, and the floor had litter and was dirty, as if it had not been cleaned properly (edges, under displays) in a long while. Again...the overworked clerks were excellent but as the downtown post office for the City of Houston it is inadequate, horribly located for the downtown, and an embarrassment. Almost as bad as our train station. We and guests to this city deserve better, even if that means some sort of private/public...
Read moreDisappointing experience with the manager of the location who behaved unreasonably and unprofessionally. When other people's mail (multiple addresses) was dropped into my mailbox, and a parcel was thrown across my front lawn at my living room window, I decided to take it all to the nearest post office and inform a manager on duty about the situation so the mail can be delivered properly. I also attempted to explain to this manager that the package content was likely damaged due to awful mishandling and the recipient should be notified of the situation, I had video footage of the event, and clearly, the USPS representative should have been held accountable. Even though USPS policy on their official website states that mail can be taken to any location and a complaint regarding mail delivery can be reported to a manager on duty, again, of ANY location, this manager tried first telling me that I WAS IN A WRONG LOCATION ENTIRELY, that MY ZIP CODE WAS NOT SERVED THERE, and that I NEEDED TO TAKE THE MAIL TO ITS PROPER LOCATION as if it was my job to drive around the city and deliver mail. Then she proceeded to insist that if I left the mail on the counter the mail would be thrown away. After seeing her ignorance and lack of manners I chose to leave the mail and simply walk away, there was no reasoning with such an individual. I highly doubt the mail found its recipients. It is unfortunate to know that a person who was put in a position to lead others by example demonstrated poor customer service skills, lack of professionalism, lack of knowledge of organization policies, open willingness to escalate an unpleasant situation instead of resolving it, and a complete lack of sympathy within less than 10 minutes of interaction with a customer. The video footage of the unscrupulous mailman was never...
Read moreAs a business owner who has lived in multiple states I've gone to many post offices to ship orders. Without a doubt this is the ABSOLUTE WORST post office I've ever encountered. When asking where to drop off my prepaid packages that were too heavy to fit in the drop box I was dismissively told by Mr. Del Torro to put them in the box anyways. When the drop box jammed and I returned to ask if I could leave my parcels on the counter Mr. Del Torro said in an aggressive manner, "I don't have the time to deal with you." Feeling disrespected and completely dissatisfied with the customer service I asked for his name. He turned, took off his name tag, and then refused to tell me. A by stander then informed me of his name, Del Torro. I next asked to speak to his supervisor. He left and returned 7 minutes later. The body language of Mrs. Jackson (his supervisor) as she approached implied she didn't want to speak to me. However, I still voiced my concerns telling her this was my first bad experience with USPS and went into detail about what occurred. When I was finished she, similarly to Del Torro, dismissively replied, "This is the real world, customer service isn't going to always be good." I was completely shocked that as a paying customer I received an, it is what it is, type of response. She then told me it wasn't Del Torres character to act in the manner in which he did, I suggested she ask the people standing in line who all witnessed and she refused. I must say I am completely dissatisfied with the professionalism and customer service at this post office by both the supervisor and staff. Clearly there is a culture of disrespect and devaluing customer service at this location. I'd never...
