Whole Earth Provision Co. — Local services in Houston

You would think with this business name that they would be down to earth and inclusive. No they're not.

Came here looking for hiking shoes and I needed advice. There were a handful of workers in that department and they all made sure to ignore me. One girl was standing around right next to me with nothing to do and she still made a point to turn her back to me. Another one took a diverted glance at me and instead offered assistance to people who have already been helped. Not a single person even acknowledged me the entire time I was there.

The shoe selection was very small anyhow but I had hoped to get advice. I went to Sun and Ski 5 minutes away and instantly got helpful great advice and the right shoes immediately.

So unless you feel you fit into Whole Earth Provisions' distinct targeted demographic then don't come here expecting service or even friendliness. Apparently they only provision...

Love, love, love this place. Customer service is spot on, helpful, knowledgeable, and nice. They had everything I needed for an upcoming trip (jackets, hiking boots, etc)....and when they didn’t have a particular size boot at either store, they said they would order it without any obligation from me. I also love that they have a great selection of things other than camp gear, especially the puzzles, books, and stuffed animals for kids. My baby was happily entertained while we were there as well. I don’t dislike REI, but Whole Earth has a much better customer experience, the things I needed, and similar prices. Furthermore, Whole Earth stays open later and they’re a local business. All wins...

This is the kind of store to wander the halls, rifle the stacks, flip through the books. There are curiosities in every corner, for both big kids and little ones. For inquisitive minds and adventurous souls. A great store for finding that one unique gift. Only problem is that it is impossible to leave, and with just the one thing. Not a bad first date stroll, come to think of it. A great selection of camping gear as well. A bit pricey but the quality looks really good so you get what...
