Avoid this place at all costs.I will give a negative 10 if I can. And I have a video to prove the scam this place is running. I will be calling the police on this place and this person behind the counter specifically. The Hispanic woman behind the counter clearly thinks she is an all seeing higher being. My husband opened the fridge which is at the back of the store- not viable to the front of the store - the bottles were stacked incorrectly by the store, one pack fell from the fridge and 2 bottles from it broke. This lady at the front very rudely asked my husband to pay because it was his fault. Seemed to be a scam she has been running for a while. The good thing was he asked for the video recording to be shown but this woman had reached a point of all god like behavior saying “no I know you broke it - just pay”. For the longest time they refused showing the video but somehow finally did probably because it showed we arent naive. They finally showed the video and It was only when my husband started recording the video being played did the man from the security room start saying “no it wasn’t his fault”. We have it captured in video this woman constantly saying that it is your fault and you dropped the bottles hard. The video clearly showed the incorrect stacking and exactly what had happened. My husband made her apologize because she was wrong and the audacity of this woman to say to him after that “good you defended yourself because a lot of customers lie”. Let me preface this review by mentioning that I completely understand that when your business suffers a loss from multiple thefts, you may take action to protect your product. That being said, there is a fine line between protecting your merchandise, and making your customers uncomfortable. Unfortunately, my experience at this establishment has mostly fallen under the latter. Every time I come into the store to browse I feel like I am prey being stalked by a predator. Typically 1-2 guys (likely hired security) will eye you down for the entire duration of your visit, even going as far as following you around and watching your every move. It is not subtle whatsoever. You can very clearly tell that they are following you around and watching you, resulting in an extremely uncomfortable experience. As I said... I understand wanting to protect your product, but sacrificing your customers' comfort for some extra protection is far from ideal. I have never been in any store that has made me feel as uncomfortable as this location while I am browsing, to the point where I feel genuinely irritated when I leave. In my eyes, you are likely better off bearing the potential loss of liquor, than you are the loss of customers from a vexatious experience. Additionally, the store offers a small selection for high prices. I find that I am often paying around 10-20% more than I would be had I gone to Jersey City Buy Rite or quite literally any other place in the country. I just got off the phone with this store and I am surprised at the manipulation tactic used on me to try to get an extra $10. I called and asked for a delivery of a $20 Napa Cabernet (something like Mondavi). The guy on the phone proceeds to tell me that the cheapest Napa Cabernet is $30. Seriously? If I am asking for a specific wine it's because I get it all the time.

I like to surprise my family with nice wines for the holidays and birthdays (Sassicaia, Opus One, I even been known to bring Screaming Eagle to a birthday party or 2). Well, they just completely lost my business and thousands of dollars from me for a cheap ploy to get an extra $10. Word of mouth is strong in Newport too since it's a close knit community.
