HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT.
A cockroach was found in my sushi and I was told there's nothing they could do about it because I did not call them right after getting the food.
Luckily I got to avoid putting the thing itself into my mouth, but by the time we found it my fiance and I had swallowed 3/4 of the cockroach contaminated food unknowingly. Thank God I always hold my sushi upside down otherwise I would've munched and tasted the cockroach's shell and guts and everything. Being shocked and horrified we hurriedly threw away all the food, cleaned up and called them. Neither of us had this kind of experience in our life so it didn't occur to us to keep the food as a proof. And we had completely no idea how to deal with it but certainly not expecting this utterly appalling irresponsibility.
After a receptionist I got to talk to a manager and she told me there's nothing she could do because-
The excuse was very petty and they didn't even try to make a single effort to look into this issue or fix things. All they did was try to avoid the situation by politely making me feel like a liar/scammer. The manager promised me a call back and that she would address it to the owner, but neither she nor the owner has given me a single call back since for one and a half months. I could've just go ahead and post a bad review but I gave them a call first and then waited a callback because I did not want to ruin a local business. But it looks like they've decided to rather ruin their customers' experience all the way down.
This restaurant was my go-to restaurant when I lived in Newport area and I even recommended this place to people who didn't live near. Seriously, what happened? Now I wonder if they even realize they are in a restaurant business. Since this restaurant does not seem to know what they are doing, I'll give you this information copied and pasted from the department of health because apparently no one gives a F* here.
Restaurant Pest Control - Dealing with Cockroaches Cockroaches aren't just unsightly; these pests carry fungi and bacteria that can contaminate food and put your staff and clients at serious health risk. The insect itself is a problem but so are its eggs, saliva, feces, cuticles and outer covering. You should not ignore a cockroach problem even if you have spotted only one insect.
P.S. I usually don't go about little things, but since I'm writing this review anyway I'll add a few things. The receptionist is very consistently rude and far from professional or informative. This time she gave me wrong information on their menu. So I ended up paying 2-3 dollars more for less amounts of shrimp tempuras. And there's this manager denying a roach got into my food, saying they never had this issue before. I seriously do not know how I can trust these...
Read moreI frequent this place as it's close and convenient. Their low-quality service has been a noticeable problem but it never really bothered me until today. A customer sitting next to us said that she was charged for a higher price than the price on the menu, and she told us to check the numbers when the bill comes. We did and the prices were indeed higher. I called the waitress. She said they are adjusting the prices and we should pay the higher. But there were neither any signs on the menu, nor verbal notice from any staff, even when we were given the bill. It seems like they just assumed no one would notice. She was apparently annoyed and impatient when I asked. She said "just don't order these anymore" and walked away with the bill. Later she came back with an adjusted bill. I said her attitude made me uncomfortable. Then she started arguing with me, acted like she was already giving me a favor by agreeing to charge the menu price. In fact, the price difference wasn't worth an argument at all. It's the lack of transparency and rudeness that made me feel really disappointed. She said "you should not tell me how to do my job", snatched the bill and walked away again. I've never been surprised to see restaurants raise price. Even when the menus are outdated, they would usually stick a note onto it or tell customers before taking orders. Isn't this a basic courtesy or sort of default way of handling it? But they didn't and they got mad at us discovering it. I asked the waitress whether she would just silently charge me more if I didn't point it out. She avoided my question, simply repeating that she didn't end up charging the higher prices. "What's her problem?" she said to other waitresses so loudly that I could hear it as I walked out. I've seen people using "rude" to describe the service here. But like I said, I've come to this place so often that I almost chose to let those things slide. It's not because their food is that good, simply because it's close to where I live. After dinning at so many Japanese places in NY/NJ, I can honestly say theirs is mediocre. Now I have to say I don't recommend this place - if you are looking for good Japanese food, kind staff, and somewhere you would want to...
Read moreI am compelled to share my experiences with the food delivery service, which, regrettably, have not met expectations on a couple of occasions. My orders have been delivered late twice, significantly impacting the quality of the dining experience as the food arrived cold. The reasons provided for these delays were issues with the delivery bikes. While I understand that unexpected challenges can occur, the recurrent nature of these problems suggests a deeper issue that might be affecting the efficiency and reliability of the service.
The concept of relying on bikes for delivery is commendable for its environmental benefits; however, when mechanical issues become a frequent excuse for late deliveries, it raises concerns about the maintenance and management of the delivery fleet. This recurring issue has led to a diminished dining experience, not just in terms of enjoyment but also in the quality and temperature of the food upon arrival.
In light of these experiences, I believe there is a significant opportunity for improvement. Regular maintenance checks on the delivery bikes, better contingency planning for unexpected issues, and perhaps a review of the delivery time estimates provided to customers could enhance the reliability of the service. Ensuring that food is delivered hot and on time is crucial for customer satisfaction and should be a priority.
I hope my feedback is received in the constructive spirit in which it is intended. My aim is to see an improved service that consistently delivers not just food, but also satisfaction and reliability. Thank you for...
