Unfortunately, our recent visit to the Key West Golf Club was overshadowed by a disappointing customer service experience that started the moment we walked into the clubhouse. We were greeted (if you can even call it that) by a woman named Karen — short blonde hair and an attitude that made us feel more like an inconvenience than paying guests. There were maybe six people in the clubhouse, including my three family members, so it wasn’t like they were overwhelmed or understaffed. Yet somehow, the level of service felt like we were just being rushed through a process. Karen’s tone was unmistakably passive-aggressive, with zero warmth or effort to make us feel welcome. It was almost as if she was annoyed we were there at all. Just because there’s only one golf course in Key West does not give staff the right to treat guests like another transaction in the system. Just because Karen may be used to dealing with locals doesn’t mean her passive-aggressive attitude is acceptable toward out-of-town guests. Key West thrives on tourism, and employees at popular venues like this should reflect that with professionalism and hospitality — not indifference. That’s exactly how we felt — like a number, not guests there to enjoy an experience. Karen’s attitude at the start of our tee time completely set the wrong tone. She was dismissive, rushed us out of the clubhouse, and left us all feeling unwelcome before we had even hit a single ball. It got to the point where the group I brought along didn’t even feel like playing. That’s how off-putting the interaction was. The only bright spot was a woman named Donna, who was incredibly kind, attentive, and went above and beyond to make us feel seen and appreciated. The only reason this review is receiving two stars instead of one is solely because of Donna, the one staff member who went out of her way to treat us with genuine kindness and attentiveness. Donna showed us the level of service we had hoped for from the beginning. She deserves to be recognized and appreciated. Donna deserves recognition and should be the standard for how guests are treated. Unfortunately, the actions (and attitude) of Karen undid all of that. I’m writing this so future guests can make informed decisions. Golf is not a cheap experience, especially in a place like Key West, and no one should feel like their money is wasted on poor customer service. If Karen is working the clubhouse, I suggest caution — or better yet, waiting until someone like Donna is there to ensure you’re treated with the respect every paying...

Course cond: 6/10 (sand traps FILLED w rocks construction everywhere) beautiful Views

Staff: -1/10 this is the worst staff ive ever encountered. They WILL be rude and they WILL treat you like garbage

Price: 2/10 Nearly 150 a person. Carts are junk ours wobbles left and right the entire time.

Overall: dont waste your time, money, or happiness at this place. Its terrible

If i could give negative stars I would!

If you love golf, want to enjoy a nice round with some buddies, appreciate a friendly conversation with a staff member. Go FAR FAR away from this overpriced course in KEY WEST.

Every person from my first encounter to my last were rude dismissive and acted as if my group of guys and I were nothing but an annoyance to them.

This course is nearly 150 dollars per player (not even in great condition) we visited for a bachelor party. We had 6 guys and even after messaging me letting me know they had a tee time available for us to play back to back(per my request and SIMPLE to manage) and enjoy MAIN purpose of our trip. I was told i was “out of luck” and “sorry bud” on the phone by whatever rude staff member worked the desk the evening before our teetime.

The starter? Yeah, the fight starter you should call Him because his condescending attitude and rude demeanor rushing people around like hes got somewhere to be and talking to people like theyve never been on a golf course before is such a fun way to kick off your round.

Come to find out (locals that we were paired with instead of our group told us) the manager and his buddies played in between my group of 2 and group of 4

glad he was able to enjoy his round.

Stopped for ONE photo opp on the ONLY chance we had to be together as a party on the course and were yelled at by the manager and his buddies while he proceeded to play into us on the green. Didnt even finish the hole. What a fun memory!

Ill leave this review to save any and every group of guys that ever considers this place. I promise you, you WILL regret it.

Id never spend another dollar at this garbage establishment.

Im sure theyll comment w their silly defense like every other review. Focus on running a proper and professional business. Not an overpriced “turn your nose up at others “ contruction dump. Thats a good enough reply for me and everyone else on here that said the same...

1SG Retired 25yrs Army with 5 Combat tours.

Grad HS from Key West (M.I.) and living at my parents’ house for 6mths until they return, doing rotations with them since I’m newly retired and is able to travel more. I’ve golfed all over the world and today was my worst game/day playing.. this was my 3rd time (since Nov’23) paying the ridiculous $150 for round a golf.. My golfing buddy (who lives here and had an extra set of clubs) tried getting me a visitor pass since he is a member the 2nd time I played and that was still $120..

What unsettled my PTSD was the guy behind the counter (Mike – I think I was told by the other golfers) is a rude M*.. I asked a question if they had Military discount since I couldn’t get the “Local” price even though I live here, and my family owns a home here since I’ve graduated. He exclaims only to “active military”.. This D.A. and I also blame the Owners, don’t realize the ones retiring now are the ones that have and earned the right to be retired?! He also stated where else can I play 4hrs of golf for less than $150?!?! Really dude?? I canceled going golfing this Saturday.. I'm done! I bought an airplane ticket $280 to fly back to Texas (Home) and will gladly give those other Golf courseS my money and I’ll get better customer service while paying less than $150 ea time!!!

And before I even went to this course I did read the reviews and now I am a believer of the low rating, and now I must post for all Retired CVets.. I will not be returning to this place ever again.. The worst case I’ll drive the 8 hours to Tampa, since they have over 40 Golf courses and they certainly give military discounts… yes even retired and don’t have to be a local!! And its only $40 and some even gave me FREE tee times – I just had to rent the clubs ($20). Also most have what they called “Military Tee Times” just in case you...

⸻ ⭐️⭐️ “Golf Meets Guantanamo” If you’re into overpriced golf, dictator-level rules, and the thrilling game of Will I See the Cart Girl Before I Die of Thirst?—welcome to Key West Golf Club! No coolers allowed, no outside drinks, but don’t worry—you’ll maybe spot the cart girl once around hole 14. Better bring a flask and a prayer. Bathrooms? Ha! The men’s was out of order, so we all had to share a unisex bathroom like we were at a music festival sponsored by Charmin. And I hope you can take a dump in three minutes or less, because you’re sharing that one toilet with the entire course—even if you’re ahead of pace and they will come Get you and tell you you need to get back on the course but we didn’t see another bathroom the whole time we’re out there. And after all that, when we rushed the clubhouse hoping for cold drinks and snacks we were again reminded we have two minutes or they would come grab us. That’s fine at all, but let me remind you again you can’t bring your own drinks or snacks so I hope you’re good playing in 100° weather with no drinks in sight ( coolers of water were also empty on course ) The course itself was just ok but the experience? Like golfing inside an HOA meeting. Good luck!

Update: back in Key West 5 years from my original review and not much has changed. Bunkers are awful still. While I didn't see much water in them there are now big rocks throughout the bunkers. I came in May 5 years ago and greens had been aerated and now in late June/early July and greens had been aerated. Guess I have bad timing. I liked the layout of the course a lot. Some of the conditioning left me feeling like I paid too much to play here. It rained 0.5" the day before and the majority of the bunkers had standing water. In addition they had just aerated the greens and fairways very recently and no one notified me even though I called twice before booking my tee time. I was still charged the regular rate of $72. At my courses back home, they lower the rates and notify you whenever the greens have been aerated, so I was disappointed to get to the 1st green and see sandy greens. Conditions were pretty good otherwise, but I do feel like they should've given a discount for the aeration.

We were part of a Cruise that made a stop in Key West in the end of Dec and decided to play a little golf, I did my due diligence read the reviews, some good and some bad but was willing to make my own decision. Glad I did the staff were all very friendly Juan in the pro shop is a person who if I had a business to run would definitely be my front of house go to guy. The course was in great condition even with the rain they received prior to and unfortunately mid round. The rental clubs were top shelf and the cart staff were helpful and friendly. Don’t be swayed by the negative comments as I found them to be unwarranted. If we ever stop in to Key West this will definitely be a must stop and play. Keep up the great work on keeping the course in great playing condition and your professional staff. Thanks for the memories.
