Ryan's Art for the Soul — Local services in Laguna Beach

I was genuinely drawn in by the charm and aesthetic of this shop — it’s beautifully curated and full of lovely items. Sadly, my experience was soured by an extremely unpleasant interaction with the older woman working behind the counter, who was shockingly rude and unkind.

While browsing, my almost 2-year-old daughter accidentally knocked over a small glass globe that was displayed on the actual ground of the store. It shattered. Rather than responding with empathy or understanding, the woman abruptly said, “You break it, you buy it,” with no concern or conversation. It felt harsh and frankly, like a scam.

Why place such delicate items within easy reach of small children? This wasn’t a case of negligence — I was supervising my daughter, and she’s never broken anything in a store before. It felt like a setup. Stores have a responsibility to display fragile items safely, and when something is placed dangerously or without care, the store can absolutely be considered partially at fault.

To make matters worse, I was charged full retail price for the item. That didn’t feel right. At the very least, it would’ve been more reasonable (and fair) to ask me to cover the wholesale cost — not retail — given the circumstances and the fact that I wasn’t mishandling merchandise.

Needless to say, I won’t be returning — and will probably cringe every time I walk past this store now. What could have been a warm, memorable shopping experience turned into one I’ll remember for all the wrong reasons. I agree with another reviewer who mentioned this same exact woman---do better! Find another employee that aligns with the "soul" and essence...

Ryan the owner is absolutely phenomenal!!! I called two days ago to pick up a journal. I was running late because of traffic coming from Orange and he stayed after for me. This store is a must see as there is something in here for everyone. The creativity and talent of all the different artists is inspiring. I love seeing how creative they are with everyday objects. You will find unique items you can’t find anywhere else. Some things are pricey but remember you are paying for handcrafted talent...
