First: Mali and the security team are absolutely excellent, they need a raise and a promotion. Issues arose working at Spaces after Day 1, our office was not cleaned (I hired a cleaning team to do this for us). The kitchen is filthy and the cups and glasses are never clean, same for the toilets, the cleaners stand around on their phones rather than working. The main issue arose as our Internet wasn't working (in an office LOL) and the IT team never replied to us. We were given a month free for our move-in but Spaces invoiced us for the month. No big deal. We asked for the building manager Pamela to assist in clarifying the issue (presuming she would fix it). After an opaque email from her I requested a meeting where she could print the invoices and go over them line by line, once we confirmed what was owed (and what was needed to dispute) I would remit payment (literally there and then). CRICKETS. I requested Mali help me with this - but he was busy with literal busy work, I believe sending out a mail merge. The following day I went down to reception with my debit card in hand to request Pamela's assistance, this is when things got ugly. She began to raise her voice, call me names and generally be the rudest customer service operative I have ever met in my life. I'm not keen to pay thousands of dollars a month to a company who treat you like dirt and speak to you with disrespect. I am not the only one who has been invoiced incorrectly, looking at the reviews for Spaces properties this is an across the board issue. I spoke with various colleagues on the 3rd floor who told me they are: planning to leave, have been spoken to disrespectfully by Pamela, that Pamela has lied to them, that they are considering suing Spaces. There are all types of rumors flying around that Pamela has been downgraded from the "manager" to an associate and she is taking out her frustrations on the residents, there are also rumors that Spaces in Hollywood will be closing due to low revenue. The space is about 75% empty and has a ghoulish feel when you walk through the halls. Regardless I just want to pay what I owe and have an easy life working in my office without being screamed at and any drama. Nobody from Spaces has connected with me since the bruhaha and I am starting to think they are just a zombie company trying to eek out a few more months rent from tenants before sending the Hollywood Spaces location bankrupt and canning all the staff. The experience has been dreadful and it was only 2 months long... I am still in contract, hoping someone reads this and gets...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI'm a new tenant at the above-referenced location. I've just had a very problematic interaction with the onsite manager, Pamela.
There had been some confusion on my part around the way your billing system works (as it is not the way a traditional American company operates). So, I went up to the center to move in, and after being helped by both Pamela and her fellow co-worker Mali, I was cleared to move in. This morning, I awoke to attempted charges on my company credit card, despite being told in person by Pamela yesterday that I was all paid up.
In an attempt to resolve it with Pamela over the phone, she was rude, disrespectful, dismissive, lied multiple times, wanted me to listen to her but when it was my turn to talk, she talked over me, and after threatening me, she eventually hung up the phone on me.
As a business owner and a current law student, I'm keenly aware how misconceptions or misunderstandings easily arise in the regular course of business. However, it is never ok for a manager to behave in this way toward an incoming tenant. I now must be extremely careful in my dealings with her because I cannot trust that she will tell the truth, own up to her mistakes, and apologize. I should not have to be subjected to this kind of treatment.
I really love everything about the space I've contracted for, and I just wanted to partner with a company that operates in integrity, honesty, and the respect everyone wants for themselves. Unfortunately, it seems that I will not be able to receive that here and will have to "watch my back" until my contract is up.
UPDATE: Later this same day, I corresponded with a Marcos Jara Ruiz, their Deputy City Manager for Los Angeles via email, who instead of asking any questions or taking any accountability for the issues caused by his staff and his company's business practices, he instead indirectly accused me of cursing at his employee (neither she nor I cursed, but apparently, she lied and said I did), and sought to overcharge me for access to the space that I don't yet have. Another case of a white woman crying white tears, to try to make the Black man look like an aggressor, when it is actually her than stepped out of line. Mali is the only person on-site that is reliable and trustworthy, so I'm going to limit my communication anyone other than him, and make it mostly in writing, so Pamela won't be able to lie on me again. Extremely disappointing and disheartening, but they will be held to their contractual obligations and standards of business...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWithout a doubt, SPACES Hollywood ranks as one of the worst possible choices for office space. The primary issues are not just with the property itself, but rather the staff and organizational policies. Anaisa Avila, who labels herself a community manager, appears more focused on filling vacant offices and making commission than on offering quality service. She is known for delaying responses, especially as you approach the automatic lease renewal date, and once your lease is auto-renewed, they hold you to it without a shred of remorse.
Security, or the lack thereof, poses a serious concern. I was robbed of over $10,000 worth of goods, and SPACES took no responsibility for the loss. Luckily, I had additional insurance to cover the financial setback. The thief managed to infiltrate the building on three consecutive days, spotlighting the management's shocking negligence.
Adding to the list of grievances, the office space frequently experiences lengthy internet outages, sometimes lasting as long as a week, making the workspace virtually useless. Don't anticipate any form of compensation for these disruptions; their support is nonexistent on that front.
Pricing is another murky area. In calling other SPACES locations, I discovered that the rates can vary significantly, pointing to inconsistent pricing policies. The Hollywood location, in particular, seems to be managed by individuals better suited for running a pricing scam than a professional office space.
The parking lot is not a haven of safety, either; muggings have occurred. The neighborhood is rife with danger, teeming with homeless encampments and dubious characters. A notorious drug hotel next door exacerbates the unsafe environment; it's not uncommon to see body bags being carried out.
Given these myriad issues, I can no longer justify staying in this space and strongly urge you to consider other options.
** This photo shows the aftermath of a recent break-in at SPACES Hollywood, where I lost many of my belongings. Despite the security breach, the building management offered no assistance and instead attempted to lock me into a hiked-up...
